Hello everyone, I hope you all had a fantastic weekend and public holiday for fellow Australians, Edin and I are back this week with The Average Australian Football Podcast - Episode 29.

On this week's show we jump straight into the A-League quarter finals with Perth Glory stunning Melbourne City, while Brisbane Roar held their nerve against the Western Sydney Wanderers in a penalty shootout.

There's conversation specifically on where the Wanderers went wrong this season and in the match, as well as Brisbane's week as they look to navigate through a mid-week Asians Champions League match and end with a huge semi-final against the Victory. This leads into conversation about A-League teams and where their focus is (and should be) with dual competition commitments.

We then go into discussion on the Melbourne City game, with talk about Nicolas Colazo and Thomas Sorensen's expected departures from Melbourne City, plus the low attendance at AAMI Park for such a huge game. As for Perth Glory, we touch on Diego Castro's brilliance, their chances against Sydney FC, scoring too early, and whether they can stop the Sydney juggernaut.

After a look back at the quarter finals, we then look ahead to the 2 huge semi finals between Melbourne Victory and Brisbane Roar, plus Sydney FC as they host Perth Glory on the Saturday night.

Outside of the A-League finals we look at the previous week's results in the English Premier League, particularly the Liverpool loss at Cyrstal Palace, with a look ahead to the huge Manchester derby and north London derby between Tottenham and Arsenal over the weekend. There's interesting discussion on Pochettino and his legacy so far, with questions over what are the expectations at Tottenham, and just how important their title challenge is this season for them as a club.

We end the show with a look at the semi final draw in the Champions League, plus a quick recap of the FA Cup semi finals results, with a brief look ahead to the May 28th FA Cup final between Arsenal and Chelsea.

Episode 29 - A-League Semi Finals are set as Perth and Brisbane advance

Hello all, we're back with the final podcast of the A-League season! Can you believe we're already at the end??!?!?! It feels like only yesterday....

This week starts as you would expect, as we jump straight into the VAR controversy at the Sydney and Perth Glory semi final. Edin happened to be at the match, so he was able to give a unique insight into what it was like at the stadium itself, as we discuss the future of VAR and what hopes/fears we have about the technology going forward.

As usual, we discuss both semi final matches in our match review, with Sydney's dominance and Brisbane's fatigue in their 1-0 defeat to Melbourne Victory being key talking points. The topic does then drift into Melbourne Victory's performance and what they'll need to do if they wish to knock off the almost invincible looking Sydney FC.

Also in the world of A-League, we talk on the latest transfer outgoings and in-goings in the A-League, with quick discussion on if Jamie Maclaren could follow in the footsteps of Aaron Mooy with his successful move to England. If you're looking for a chat on the Australian clubs and their mixed (but mostly poor) results in the Asian Champions league, then we have that too.

There's the expected A-League grand final preview, with both Edin and I heavily in the camp of Sydney FC. We do speak about the final being played in Sydney, with questions over just how difficult this trip will be for the Victory.

As it's the last show of the A-League season, we both go through our player of the season, best 'new' signing of the season, and a debate on whether we would change anything to Mark Bosnich's team of the season that he announced earlier in the week.

Outside of the A-League finals discussion, we then finish with the previous week's results in the English Premier League, particularly Arsenal's shambolic performance against Tottenham, as well as what that result means for the race for top 4. We're back in agreement that Arsenal will miss out for the first time in years, with perhaps Man Utd being the unlucky 2nd team to finish outside of the top 4. Who do you guys have missing out from the current top 6?

We end the show with a brief chat on the brilliance of Ronaldo and what could happen in the other semi final that takes place early tomorrow morning.
