The Band Gather is a Dream Rock power trio from Long Beach, California. Their sound reflects the modern vibes of Muse, Arcade Fire & Death Cab for Cutie, with a proper reminiscence of 80’s influences, a la U2, The Cure & The Police. Their newest album, “Two Decade Transmission” released in May, 2017, and is packed with their signature, transportive formula of passionate & powerful vocals, buoyant galloping guitars, fiery dynamic drums and driving melodic bass.

The Gather boys met each other in high school, circa the early 90’s in Long Beach, CA. They spent most weekends carving out their sound through hours of writing, rehearsing and gigging around Long Beach and L.A. In many ways, the 90’s Grunge / Hippy Revival music scene was a challenge for the Gather sound, since they were still heavily influenced by earlier 80’s BritPop & Dark Wave, mixed with 90’s Avant Garde & New Age. Over the years, they made records and played all the clubs; but as musicians classically do, they wove in and out of other projects. Nevertheless, the Gather boys remained friends, continued to make music, and always held on to the Gather vision. 

In 2016, they decided it was time again for a new effort; but now, the geographical distance of each member stretched between Southern and Northern CA, and the primary challenge was getting together in the same room on a regular basis. The Gather boys were very confident in their instincts of writing together, so they came up with an experimental option. Dennis recorded the guitar and vocals for ten tunes to a click track, and uploaded the files to Dropbox. Brandon and David pulled down those files, and wrote and recorded their parts in their home studios. The files were then brought together for mixing at Adamos Recording in Huntington Beach, where the band had recorded all of their previous records. Therein lies the meaning behind album title, which stands for Two Decades since their last release, and Transmission over the internet via Dropbox. “Two Decade Transmission” was officially wrapped up and released in May, 2017.

Dennis Bestafka (vocals and guitar) is originally from International Falls, MN, a small town on the Canadian border. He spent most of his childhood as an artist, and learning about the outdoors from his family. Dennis eventually landed in Long Beach, California just in time for high school, where he began playing guitar. The military played a strong role in Dennis’ family, so he joined the Army, 82nd Airborne Paratroopers in 2000, and went on to fight in the invasion of Iraq in 2003. After his tour, he returned to San Fransisco, CA to continue playing music and hone his skills as a composer and recording engineer.

Brandon Laws (drums) is originally from Long Beach, CA, and grew up under the umbrella of a very musical family. His father (a guitarist) and older brother (a bassist) both played very influential and supportive roles in Brandon’s musical development. Brandon picked up the guitar at a very young age, and discovered his passion behind the drum kit in high school. Over the years, Brandon has become an accomplished recording and touring drummer, with a broad breadth of styles, and in addition, has become a very savvy live sound and studio engineer. 

David (dj) Johnson (bass) is originally from a large family in Utah, and eventually landed in Long Beach, CA just in time for high school. DJ has been a sketch artist and avid computer tech from a very young age, and was handed down his first bass from his father in high school. DJ also comes from a very musical family, as his mother (a drummer) and father (a bassist) played together in a cover band together for years. Over the years, DJ worked his way up the video game development ladder, and created special effects for some of the top selling video games of the past decade.
