With this mix for the Ever Afters 2023 campout, I wanted to help set the stage (literally) for the lineup that Envelope booked for the Yurt. This took three forms: lesbian soundsystem music to establish dancing in that room as a norm (prog); dark and percussive and carnal tracks to open the gates for wider tempos and sonic palettes (dnb); and experimentally-focused pieces to acknowledge the history of the Yurt as a site of primarily ambient casting (experimental ambient). It works best I think if you imagine yourself in the depths of the California midlands, huddled under swerving UFO lights as the hours from 3-5am careen by 🖤

Many lightyears away, a faint signal is received by an unknown entity.  As the transmission took thousands of years to arrive at the distant galaxy, it is now a distorted recollection of the final moments of humanity as a species.  While the purpose and origin of the signal is unclear, it paints a picture of the horrors of the end of a civilization.

For Adam 2, electronic music has always provided an opportunity for self-discovery, creative exploration, and personal liberation. Since 2016, the Vancouver-based producer and DJ has worn multiple hats in the city’s growing scene, fulfilling the roles of promoter, music curator, and co-founder of Techno label PPRZ.  2020 saw the release of featured mixes on Honcho, Techno Hour of Power, and the creation of Afrofuturism is Now – a mix series amplifying the music of Black artists. In 2022/23 Adam 2 maintained their stride sharing the bill with Carlos Souffront, Shanti Celeste, and Objekt, had high profile performances at Basscoast and Domesicle in Montreal and recently released their debut EP ‘Jungle Dreams’ on Toronto based label Model Future.  As Adam 2’s career gains momentum, they continue to build their reputation by transfixing audiences with evocative, experimental techno that intersects dynamic physicality and playful cerebralism.

We're back for 2025 and pumped to kick off the Honcho Podcast Series with such a special artist. For the 130th entry in the Honcho Podcast Series, we welcome Bay area artist, The Baptist. Joan Granite (she/her) serves up a energetic, playful mix, a perfect antidote to these cold, dreary months. In regards to her mix, Joan says, 'I wanted to play around the idea of what it feels like to dance at Hemlock Hole - and this is as close as I could get to that. It's chock full of some (not all) of my favorite dance music producers that have influenced me and my sound over the years.'

It was an honor to close out the alley this year. Unfortunately, the set got cut short 30 mins, but I'm grateful for what I get to share. Watching the sunrise touch the friends, after a night of total debauchery and anarchist joy, i played some deep techno tracks was a sight I'll hold in my memory for a long ass time.
