I find it most challenging to verbalize happy emotions. When I’m sad, everything is easy to categorize whereas when anything positive happens, I just feel a complex ball of vibrant “somethings”. “PROJECTIONS” is celebrating that “something” without trying to over analyze it. The lyrics aren’t super coherent, but they felt right, and the whole song is messy and imposing, but in a pleasant, dreamy way.

I produced this song after finally getting around to listening to Tyler the Creator and Kayne, and just being so inspired by the use of sampling. This song feels like August to me— hot, sticky, and nostalgic. It’s also the first single off of “all caps” EP coming September 24th. Thank you for your support!

PROJECTIONS

"For Keeps" is a quintessential breakup track for the blindsided partner who wasn't expecting a split. Though I originally produced this track, WRAWKSTAR's verse offers a perspective on the other side of the coin-- While getting your heart broken certainly isn't easy, breaking someone's heart and future plans isn't a cakewalk, either. 

"For Keeps" also takes on the question of whether or not possessing another person is truly healthy. In the most open last verse, the lyric "Why does it matter if I’m your thoughts?
I’m just insecure and selfish hoping that you are lost" emphasizes that the narrator is much more invested in holding onto a partner's idealized version of themselves, rather than the partner themselves. 

I crafted this tune with blaring, messy synths that feel as though they're constantly going through spikes of heat only to quickly return to a more somber underlying tone. Another deliberate production choice was breaking apart the word "keeps" with vocal chops-- I wanted to convey a distortion of what once was, as the word is broken down much like the relationship itself. 

Regardless of the listener's interpretation, WRAWKSTAR and myself (Kate Brunotts) plan to promote this track to our combined pool of 23K monthly listeners hoping to soundtrack the abrupt ends of someone's summer fling. Thanks for taking the time to listen!

"GONE SOUR" is the third song off of my upcoming EP entitled "all caps". The song follows the story of a looming breakup, with the speaker procrastinating cutting the inevitable cord. I produced this track after being inspired by FKA Twig's loose song structure, prioritizing the journey of emotion over traditional ABAB repetition.

One of my favorite things about this track is that I purposefully distorted the entire ending to represent the unraveling of a relationship. I also experimented with speaking in this song to give it more of an intimate feel and push my boundaries as someone who's used to signing.

"GEMINI" is a self-produced track all about the experience that comes from the duality of both a physical and digital self. The second verse is more specific to this dichotomy as an artist where it's a necessity in today's world to pick up the digital mask in order for your art to become relevant. This track is the first off my project Light in Dark Places. This one was more of a challenge for me as there isn’t much of a definitive structure, but I was trying to push myself in service of following fear/shame and moving past it— the second half of the song opens with a raw vocal that’s intentionally rough. I wanted to take something I might initially perceive as bad and build something beautiful around it. In my strongest artistic mood, there isn’t a good/bad, it’s more about context, and I wanted to reflect that.
