Based in Atlanta, Georgia, we perform a harmonious indie rock sound that mellifluously blasts your favorite feel-good cover songs and a few original tunes. Find us at your local socially-distanced, outdoor venue or brewery.

Formerly of Atlanta folk duo Buttered Bourbon, MJ nukes the uke and sings like a siren… you know, like the mermaid siren, not the ambulance siren.

With a flair for the dramatic and a master ear, Gray pounds the piano and vocalizes victoriously. He’s also really good at Dungeons and Dragons.

Also a dungeon master, Luis is a percussion master and occasional back-up singer master. He tippy-taps and budoom-doom-baps chill rhythms and mighty beats.

The Before Times started when MJ decided she needed a percussionist, so she reached out to the wonderful world of Craigslist and found Luis. Luis decided that they needed a keyboardist, so he reached out to Gray. They all started performing together in late 2019. Then Covid happened. Christening themselves The Before Times, MJ, Luis, and Gray now play socially distanced shows that are specifically designed to make you forget about the dumpster fire that is 2020. Instead, you'll remember the good times you had in the past, and look forward to better times in the future.
