La Chute de Lapinville

Lapin, pervers narcissique en fin de droits, raconte son retour à Lapinville et sa décision de faire un podcast pour se venger de ses anciens camarades d’école. Il est bientôt rejoint par Chloé Bloomington, star de cinéma qu’une énorme shitstorm oblige à revenir dans sa ville natale pour jouer dans une fiction quotidienne à la con. Puis, on suit l’enquête de Spiruline, astucieuse stagiaire à la mairie, qui dévoilera des scandales insoupçonnés dans les plus hautes sphères de Lapinville… Tour à tour, les Lapinvillois témoignent pour essayer de comprendre comment, une chose en entraînant une autre, ils ont fini par provoquer la destruction de la Terre. Leurs destins entremêlés forment une pelote visible de l’espace dont cette série, cinq minutes par jour, va dérouler le fil. Fresque épique et palpitante, chronique de la catastrophe en cours et de ses ramifications les plus inattendues, La Chute de Lapinville a pu être décrite comme une variante des Simpson à la sauce rond-point ou un jumeau maléfique de Plus belle la vie.

Today, we're joined by Camila Vieira, a Partner at QED Investors focused on Latin America. Camila brings a wealth of experience to our conversation, having established herself as one of the region's most influential fintech investors.

Camila joined QED in 2022 as the company's first employee based in São Paulo, Brazil, where she focuses on early stage investments. As an investor and operator with experience working across different regions, she brings a well-rounded perspective to the table, connecting founders and startups to valuable resources while leveraging QED's deep fintech expertise.

Prior to joining QED, Camila built her career at the intersection of technology and financial services. She started at Moody's, a credit rating agency, before joining Goldman Sachs to focus on corporate credit and economic risk. Later, as part of Goldman's investment banking division, she helped fintech, software, and e-commerce companies raise capital and navigate the transition from private to public markets.

She went on to join the global strategy and corporate development teams at Ceridian, a global software company servicing more than 160 countries. More recently, Camila spent time at Hotmart, a Brazilian tech unicorn whose platform facilitates sales of digital products, enabling creators to build, monetize, manage, and grow globally. There, she led strategy and operations, ESG, and investor relations.

Today, we'll explore the dynamic Brazilian fintech ecosystem, discuss cross-border investment opportunities, and uncover lessons that US investors and financial professionals can apply when looking to diversify their portfolios into these high-growth regions.

Understanding the jabuticaba factor: How QED's Camila Vieira mastered local nuance in Latin American fintech investing

In this episode, we discuss Annie Ernaux’s writing in The Years alongside a paper by Jenefer Robinson entitled ‘Style and Personality in the Literary Work’. We consider Robinson’s assertion that an author’s style expresses their personality, and set it in the context of influential views of style formulated by such modernists as Flaubert, Joyce, and T.S. Eliot, and by such literary theorists as Barthes, Bakhtin, and Kristeva. Ernaux’s own study of literature coincided with the heyday of literary theory in France. We use Robinson’s paper as a starting-point for reflection on the purposes and effects of the impersonal style Ernaux crafts in The Years.

After spending the last decade since 2004 moving and performing music amongst the Californians, native Coloradan Nicholas (Klaus) Larson returned to Colorado in 2012, bringing with him the beginnings of the music that made up The Bell Hours’ debut self-titled album.

Klaus wrote, performed, and recorded the album using skills developed over several years study in audio engineering, arranging over programmed beats, but shortly before releasing, he brought in Denver based drummer and engineer Joseph Chudyk to recreate the beats into wonderful live performances. Joe then worked with Klaus and his recordings to create the final mixes, capturing a simple modern music with a vintage and nostalgic sound.

The music of The Bell Hours is an eclectic and sentimental take on modern Rock and Roll, taking lyrical themes from more modern times and ideas with our impressions of love, compassion, and mindfulness (not to mention anger and jealousy) and combined it with musical themes stretching from Folk, Rock and Roll, Indie, Hip Hop, and Jazz, culminating in a rich pop music experience with amazing replay value. The group of talented musicians inspired by the music that came together to tour the album have done an astounding job in translating the dynamics and moods live that the album captured in its recordings.
