Heavy was born from an electronic dance beat created by Nick MacDaniels (Vocals/Guitar) and further developed by the rest of the band on live instruments in the studio. “We knew we could breathe some really interesting life into it as a full band as soon as we heard Nick's demo.” explains drummer Ben Vinograd (Drums)

The track represents a brand-new approach to writing and recording music for Big Something. “For the first time ever, we went into the studio with a completely blank canvas and developed a brand new album together from scratch. Everything was written and recorded in the moment,” MacDaniels reveals. “It was one of the most fun experiences we've ever had as a band and I think you can hear that especially on this track.”

‘The Breakers’ is a synth-pop inspired track that represents a new approach to writing music for Big Something. "It’s one of those songs that kind of magically wrote itself in the moment,” says lead vocalist Nick MacDaniels. “It really turned into a thesis statement for the entire new album.” 

“Escape” the title of the album even comes from the lyrics in this song, which serve as a reminder to keep living and dreaming in the face of struggle. Lead guitarist Jesse Hensley explains, “For me it’s about looking at one another without judgement and always doing our best to stay present with the people around us and empathetic to what they may be going through.”

The Breakers

Some songs just seem to fit certain moments in time. Given the current state of the world today Big Something’s ‘Timebomb’ has arrived at a fitting moment in history. "We originally had no idea we would be releasing this song during a global pandemic but now here we are dropping a dance track for the apocalypse a la Prince's "1999" during a quarantine and world-wide shutdown with no clear end in sight.” says lead singer and guitarist Nick MacDaniels.

“I think most of us know we’re going to get through this, but it’s a scary time for a lot of people and it really can start to feel apocalyptic. We originally wrote this song thinking it would just be a fun dance track for our live show, but now the lyrics have kind of come to life in a crazy way,” MacDaniels adds.
 
Big Something is hopeful the track can still provide a fun escape for fans while waiting on better days ahead. "We came into this recording process looking to have fun, write music on the spot. That relaxed, no pressure approach had a huge effect on the vibe of this song. We were able to put ourselves in a headspace to write music that was fun and felt good" adds drummer Ben Vinograd.
