At 1 in the morning, Mike put up a bunch of concepts, including one called Concept 9.  By 2 in the morning, I had tossed it into Logic and chopped it up to rearrange the chord progression.  The reason?  I have lyrics and a melody already to it.  At least a first verse.  They go like this:

Fifteen souls hidin' in a hole
On a jackknifed factory farm
Matty's eyes keep telling lies
As he bandages his brother's arm
Brooklyn lost her man
When we lost the Douglas County dam
And Mrs. Bird won't say a word
Just cries and wrings her hands

I'm testing out my new microphone, headphones, and audio interface by recording the first stab at some vocals for this project.  This is an idea I had for a chorus based off of Mike's "Concept 8" piece.  The lyrics are as follows:

I'm on the wrong side of home
Out here, too far to walk alone
I can't get you on the phone
Out here, on the wrong side of home

Based on Mike Wright's "Concept 10" track, I started singing some lyrics over top of it on my commute home.  All that I've done here is pulled Mike's sketch into Logic and dropped a very quick vocal over it.

The Billhook Dillies are an experiment in 21st century storytelling and music making.  We're setting out to make a folk fictional album - a fo-fi album, if you will - set in America after the events of a zombie apocalypse.
