Watched The Bill again in re-runs on The ABC and saw PC Ramsey's exit. After googling, I discovered Nick Reding's committment to FGM which is tough work. As a former teacher speaking about FGM was sensitive and difficult. In usually noisy, disinterested classrooms, during lectures about FGM you could hear a pin drop. Many students, as young as 15, researched this topic over the past 3 to 8 years and I was proud of their compassion, authenticity and genuine interest -and deep sadness for these women and their sisters. Nick Reding's a far cry from Pete Ramsey the porche driving, whinging, xenophobic, homophobic card cheat in The Bill! This is a fantastic interview -a great man, a tireless worker; thank you for making this podcast available to us all! Kindest, Melissa

But as we discover, there's so much more to his varied career, encompassing acting, music and writing. We learn about Andrew's current project, the hit fiction podcast, @LetterFromHelvetica, talk about his early life and how his professional journey in music and acting began, and he shares with us some of his creative influences.

We explore his continuing musical collaboration with Joe Dooley, and get to grips with some general acting and career matters, including authenticity in casting, accents, received pronunciation and the art of speech, and the mixed blessing of being in a long-running series. We also discuss opportunities for mature actors and, inspired by an unstoppable generation of rock and roll performers, if perceptions of age are evolving in a positive way within the arts and beyond.
