Growing up in the Northwest side of Indiana, Billy Gene grew up in the rough neighborhoods by Chicago and Gary, Indiana where gang life, drugs, and poverty flourished the streets.  As a child, Billy was highly influenced by the music of Michael Jackson for the music of love and the music from the growing genre, Hip-Hop, which rappers like Big L, Eminem, Biggie Smalls, UGK, and Tupac influenced his upbringing through the rough street they've rapped about in their songs that he sees everyday.  As Billy grew to his teens, he loved hip hop music even more but felt that too much of the same topics of drugs, money, and the degrading of women was becoming overrated and because of it, Billy learned to write his own music regarding topics that no other rappers would talk about.  Going into college, he has been behind the scenes studying the history of hip hop and music altogether and gained his official stage name from the famous song by Michael Jackson, "Billie Jean", but in different wording.  He is now reaching everyone that he can influence through his music with two of his own created brands, "RIPG" which is an acronym for "Rose In Poverty Gang" and "ROEO" which is also an acronym for "Rise Over Every Obstacle".  His style and flow resembles to that of Chicago's own rapper, Common.
