For this months Weirdos inc. Show, we invited local dj Syd Woz for a b2b with dj_2button. This one starts of nice and downtempo, sludgy and moves its way into some disco-teque oddities and wonky dub-house before going into some weirdo electro bits and back into some odd ball house and techno adjacent heaters. ENJOY! we sure did, the shutters were open at b-side radio - first of the spring for sure

In the summer of 1998, DJ S orchestrated the Mediterranean’s very first UK Garage event whilst enjoying his honeymoon in Cyprus.

He invited DJ Spoony and MC Creed to the then little-known coastal resort of Ayia Napa and lit the fuse of a very British love affair.

For the following five summers London’s shuffle and swing soundtracked the sandy beaches of Cyprus’ southern shore, spreading the UK gospel and fortifying the genre’s reputation as a cultural force to be reckoned with. 

Whilst Ayia Napa has changed in the quarter century since, UK garage remains synonymous with the summer sun.

When temperatures rise and the season’s first rays pierce through the winter gloom, you’ll hear a 2-step beat faster than you can say factor fifty.

The chicken and egg question is: did the Ayia Napa years reshape UKG into a summer sound, or was UKG already the perfect soundtrack to those warm summer nights?

Whilst you philosophise on that, I’ve recorded a garage mix for all the hot days ahead.

Miami-based producer Damelo steps up with a standout debut on Ilario Alicante’s Sound D’Elite, delivering a tightly produced three-tracker titled ‘Body Language’. Out on 18th July 2025, the release blends stripped-back rhythms, rolling low-ends, and sharp vocal work, and we’re premiering the closing cut, ‘Wrong Way’.

The track wastes no time. It locks into a pulsing groove from the start, with tightly programmed percussion and a rumbling bassline driving the track forward. There’s a darkness to it, but it’s measured, not aggressive, just laser-focused. Flickers of FX and distant vocal stabs creep in and out of the mix, giving it that shadowy, late-night feel. It’s minimal in structure, but there’s weight and purpose behind every element.

‘Wrong Way’ rounds off the EP perfectly, following the high-impact collab ‘Ooh Ohh’ with London X and the moodier title track ‘Body Language’. While the other cuts flirt with vocal hooks and tension, ‘Wrong Way’ leans fully into groove and control. It’s a DJ tool in the best sense, functional, flexible, but packed with character.

Damelo’s catalogue already includes releases on respected labels like COCO, Deeperfect and Night Service Only, and he’s played venues like Avant Gardner in New York and Hearsay to The Ground in Miami. His music has garnered support from notable names, including Paco Osuna, Nicole Moudaber, Cloonee, The Martinez Brothers, and Marco Carola.

Now with his first appearance on Sound D’Elite, ‘Wrong Way’ proves Damelo’s ear for atmosphere and rhythm is sharper than ever.
