Do you remember the days, not too long ago, when everyone was searching far and wide to find iOS engineers to build their marketplace ideas? Times have changed. Take a wild guess at what type of engineer everyone is scouring the earth to find in 2018.

The demand to build decentralized applications has never been higher. The former chief information officer at UBS, Oliver Bussmann, explains, “…typical blockchain developers are easily getting $250K to $400K annual salary [and he believes] there are only 20,000 people worldwide with this kind of talent.”

Clearly, there are constraints when it comes to developing on the blockchain. And we need solutions quickly if new companies want to scale to fulfill the vision laid out in their whitepapers.

I had to chance to catch up with the CEO/Founder of Esprezzo.io for the first of many Blockchain Brief video interviews, as he provides a little more insight into the problem they are looking to solve as well as their solution.

Today we have a very special edition of the blockchain brief where we interview the founders Brendan Playford (CEO) and Ben Jorgenson (COO) of ConstellationLabs.io. Constellation is a horizontally scalable distributed operating system with smart contracts as microservices.

So what does that mean and why are we so excited about their project? 

We have our technologist in residence (Erick Pinos - President @MITBitcoinClub & Director of Operations @BlockchainEDU) break it down for you. 
We all know blockchains have a scaling problem. Every block has to be propagated throughout the entire network, and every full node in the network needs to keep a copy of every recorded transaction. Most blockchains have throughput requirements, like a capped 1MB block size. Without such throughput requirements, the blockchain would grow too fast, cutting off the ability for average users to run full nodes and thus leading to a centralization of validators that can control the state of the network.
 
Because of these throughput requirements, however, consumer grade distributed applications (dApps) are severely bottlenecked. Ethereum can only handle up to 15 transactions per second. Even the simple CryptoKitties game clogged up 11% of the Ethereum network.
 
Enter Constellation Labs, a “horizontally scalable distributed operating system”. This means that you can run intensive dApps on their platform with much higher throughput than traditional blockchains. According to their whitepaper, 1200 nodes in the network would yield 4000-4800 transactions per second. As the number of nodes increase, you also get more computing power while maintaining a trustless, distributing computing system.

Cointaxes Founder: The Truth About Crypto Currency Taxes

This Emerging Blockchain Company Is Making Waves For Enabling Private Data Transfers [Insider Video]

Crypto has really exploded in the past couple years. Make no mistake: daily trading volume has grown from ~$60M in January 2015 to over ~$10B in March 2018. But even though the majority of crypto assets are built on top of decentralized architecture, the overwhelming majority of trades still take place on centralized entities. These centralized exchanges take full custody of assets to facilitate the process of exchanging assets between traders.
 
Given the enormous scale and frequency of hacks within centralized exchanges, people have taken interest in the potential of decentralized exchanges to address rampant security issues. The most significant problem that decentralized exchanges purport to solve is removing the "counter-party risk" of 3rd parties maintaining custodianship of a traders tokens. This may come at the cost of lower liquidity and trading capabilities.

One pivotal question: is it possible to build an exchange with the liquidity of a centralized exchange, but the security benefits of a decentralized exchanged?
 
I had the chance to catch up with Fabio, founder of City of Zion, to discuss his new project NEX (Neon Exchange). NEX aims to combine the performance of centralized exchanges with the trust and security properties of decentralized exchanges.
