Showdown Ghost Town

The ship exited warp speed with enough force to kill most sentient beings, but the three occupants aboard its dark bridge hardly flinched.  The stark calm that now surrounded them seemed almost infinite as they gazed down longingly at the brown, jagged planet below.  

Quiet.  

From this distance it seemed so peaceful, veiled from the chaos and mayhem writhing just beneath what remained of its thin atmosphere.  Far and long had they traveled in search of a bounty worthy of their desire.  A charter which inevitably led them to Earth, a hot and dusty world bustling with the never-ending strife of its dominant species, Homo sapiens.

The illustrious gunslinger known as Dirty_Rock spoke first, hinting slightly at what remained of his humanity.  	
     “I’m not sure if they’re ready.”  
Infidel scoffed and began prepping his gear.  
     “Well that’s not really our concern is it?  We’re here to collect.” 

The two hunters turned briefly to the rear of the bridge, where the being known as White Rabbit sat stoically, sharpening the pads on his controller. His shiny, scaled head tilted ever so slightly, in an almost indiscernible acknowledgement of the task at hand. Dirty returned his attention to the bridge controls, and firmly pressed the comlink...

"The elders spoke of a great cloud in the vastness of space, that travelers must pass through in order to reach our planet safely.  It looked to the eyes of men like a giant rain cloud, shimmering every hue one could possibly perceive, yet floating in the great nothingness above our home.  This Nebula was known by many travelers to have a pulse of electromagnetic interference, ever beating like a heart, or a giant drum in the silence.  It was said that the pulse housed within this cloud was enough to cook the electronics in a ship, dooming the unprepared crew aboard to a quick and silent death.  It was also rumored, though, that the Nebula could sense the path of the righteous and leave that being to travel through, unharmed, with the ever-faint pulse to guide their ships.  Thus it was named the Disco Nebula, and those that chose to dance found their fate."
