"The Victims Have Names" is a song and video about The Tulsa Race Massacre that occurred on May 31st through June 1st 1921 at the Greenwood area of Tulsa. Being a Tulsa County native and growing up in the area I was really upset that I had never heard of the events until I moved back home a few years ago. I had heard of a "riot" happening years ago, but that was the extent of my knowledge of the events,  hence the line "conspiracy of silence" in the song. My goal with this project is to spread the word about the events of that day, because history that is not learned and understood is repeated. It only takes a generation for history to become lost. As a storyteller, I wanted to do my part in telling the story of not just The Tulsa Race Massacre but other stories from my home state that we can learn, heal, and grow from. This is not an exercise of shame, but of telling and evaluating our history so we can do better. I believe we can and will. And there are many people within that process of growth. I urge you to look within yourself and ask "what part can I most give of my talents to be a part of this process?" It takes all of us.
