Weirdest Dream (A Poem From 2012)

Hey kid, how you livin'
We've got to stop meeting like this
Before these bars become our prison
Serving life sentences

When we first met it was just like this
Rain was falling like bodies from buildings
I think it's cute how you thought you were my muse
I bet you even checked for your name in the liner notes 

But it's not there
It's not there

What's that pain in the corners of my forehead
Did I take it too far again
I need sensor like the ones they put  on gas pumps
So when I reach their limit, I don't overflow
Because if I was a gas tank right now 
There would be a river flowing on the ground
and as the fuel ran through our toes 
and darkening the pavement like crawling shadows

And I know that we suffer
from all the same things

So tell me how' you getting by in the world today?
Is it as hopeless as your brother always said
With his ideological struggle in his head
He always said either your rich or your better off dead

'cause we live out of hotel rooms
and sleep in beds shaped as tombs
Was it all a mistake, or is it just the way we were made

Don't take me too seriously
I'm in a constant state delirious disbelief 
I may come across as bitter
but don't take my facial expressions so literally

We used to have nice things
How quickly things can change
All I got were awkward looks
and snide remarks in exchange

We sleep on mattresses 
With vegans and anarchists 
just trying to forget we have nothing left

Run a fine tooth comb through my every move
I feel the spotlight on me
but got nothing left to prove
My ears never burned so bad
I feel whispering as I enter the room

We used to own nice things

I've got good intentions despite what they say in the press
I barely recognize myself behind these eyes of despair
