Nanz is the cousin to the Mthembu brothers in the Johannesburg art/music collective The Brother Moves On. After having a dream about the brother who passed she wrote this amazing song in remembrance. It's a new mourning for me and you.  On returning from holiday from School Nandi went to record with Siyabonga + Zwelizwe. This is the recording.

Siyabonga Mthembu our frontman was invited to a residency at Theatre Rampe in Stuttgart entitled the Vagabond Congress. The name Sad Arab Fag was coined by Egyptian graffiti artist Aya Tarek after doing a photo series by the same name. Sad Arab Fag have done an EP of covers of TBMO and hope to one day play a gig with TBMO in Johannesburg + Stuttgart.

We did a gig at the Orbit and were asked to choose a pianist we'd like to work with. All of us own Thandi Ntuli's debut album "The Offering" so it was easy to decide what we'd do. On rehearsing with Thandi we found a kindred soul who hated boxes and convention. This is one of the songs we'd like to have on our next album "Things we lost in the fire" due out in 2017.

This was Nkush's favourite track and we haven't as yet had the chance to record it properly as its been evasive. In the interim the amazing Makongela aka Zelizwe Mthembu composed a new version which me and him just recorded on a phone for you to listen to. Check out the Thandi Ntuli rehearsal version and look for it on our new album "Things we lost in the fire" 

Elders Acoustic

The people most affected by violent upheavals and the mothers and their children, this song is dedicated to them. A hidden track off A New Myth this song was recorded late at night in reverence of the goddess and eternal mother.

Taken from the live EP 'The Golden Wake' the track was recorded as part of our debut EP recorded live at SABC studios as the funeral of Mr Gold our ominous character.

Taken from the live EP 'The Golden Wake' Dagiwe is an epic that speaks to alcoholism of drinking yesterday, today and tomorrow. The track is one of the earliest home recordings done by the Brother Moves On. So much so that the bassist on this recording is Tito Zwane, the third TBMO bassist prior to the arrival of Ayanda Zalekile the current bassist of TBMO.

In December we were visited by Slovenian keys man Bowrain. We recorded a version of his track Resistance which is on his album and due for release in 2020. This is the track without the vocals, for the vocals you'll have to wait until the Summer of 2020 for our new album "S/he Who Feeds You"

Self proclaimed art movement The Brother Moves On is an ever-evolving performance art collective founded by Nkululeko Mthembu and his brother Siyabonga Mthembu. Determined to belie any one definition, the collective’s work is often deliberately improvised and unpredictable. Collaboration drives the collective, which strives to undermine the traditional authority of individual artist practice and ownership.
Long term members of the collective include Siyabonga Mthembu, Zelizwe Mthembu, Ayanda Zalekile, Simphiwe Tshabalala, Oscar Kgware, Itani Thalefi, Hlubi Vhakalise, Malcolm Jiyane ,Raytheon Orion,  Nolan Oswald Dennis and Stuart Cairns but membership is constantly fluctuating and transient.
Various performers, writers, artists, musicians and activists may collaborate at any given time on different projects before moving on.
The collective create live performances and installations so that meaning is generated through an experience rather than contained within one object. Fiction, re-enactment and the fantastical are utilized in performances like The Afterlife of Mr Gold, which chronicles both the life and afterlife of a supernatural fat cat – and The Brother Breaks the Bullion and The Brother Burns the Bullion – where real word economics and queer identity are amalgamated into a fable of greed and power.
In combining elements of fiction, the supernatural and the fantastical with factual history or recorded ‘truths’ in their installations and performances, The Brother Moves On defamiliarises our experience of both our present and our past. Performative fiction, which drives so much of The Brother Moves On instigates the altered realities through which the collective critique and comment on the socio-political issues of our own reality.
