BRVTAL VISION - MELANIE HAVENS | HÖR (Nov 9, 2022)

Phase Fatale is the Berlin-based techno project of Hayden Payne. Since 2014 the New York native has earned a reputation as a techno innovator, both for the broad spectrum of dystopian, gritty, industrial-laden electronics included in DJ sets as well as his deep understanding of synthesis and sound design in his own productions.

Phase Fatale has been turning heads with his debut album in 2017, and 12”s on labels such as Jealous God, Ostgut Ton, and its sub-label unterton. He has since settled into residencies at both Berghain in Berlin as well as 中 KHIDI in Georgia’s capital Tbilisi.

In 2018, Payne launched his own label BITE, where he introduced Soft Crash - the pi- oneering ‘Italo body music’ project in collaboration with Pablo Bozzi. In 2020, Payne released his second solo album Scanning Backwards on Ostgut Ton, while 2022 saw his third solo album and the widely anticipated debut album by Soft Crash.

Phase Fatale’s output as a selector, as well as his productions and curation on BITE demonstrate Payne’s unique musical vision, drawing from new and classic references: dark ambient drones contrasting with the raw, punchy dynamics of industrial and post- punk, cold wave aesthetics combine with 4/4 techno functionality – all stitched togeth- er meticulously with strong atmospheric sensibilities, careful and precise mixing

CatMint is a DJ/TDJ project by Ukrainian artist and performer Mariia Volkova, known as Panda for her performances with Veselka, Nechto, Pornceptual, and more. Born in Donetsk, Mariia moved to Kyiv in 2014 and began her career as a performer.

CatMint’s music is a vibrant, sexy fusion of Hard House, House, Neo-Trance, Techno and Dark Disco. Her DJ shows work on multiple levels, combining unforgettable performances with groovy, sensual tunes. After debuting in Berlin, her shows quickly captivated audiences, setting dance floors ablaze. Since 2024, Mariia has been based in London, where she continues to live and work.

𝙑𝙎𝙇𝙆: How was your first DJ gig?
𝘾𝘼𝙏𝙈𝙄𝙉𝙏: Like the first time having sex.

𝙑𝙎𝙇𝙆: Why did you choose DJing as a form of self-expression?
𝘾𝘼𝙏𝙈𝙄𝙉𝙏: After 11 years of working in clubs, becoming a DJ was the most logical next step for me.

𝙑𝙎𝙇𝙆: Sex and music - why do they go together?
𝘾𝘼𝙏𝙈𝙄𝙉𝙏: Sex and music go together because both are about raw energy, emotion, and connection. As a DJ, I play music that is sensual and provocative, designed to move people—both physically and emotionally. Music, like sex, is a universal language; it transcends boundaries and allows people to express their most authentic selves. For me, every set I play is an intimate dialogue with the audience, full of passion, rhythm, and freedom.

𝙑𝙎𝙇𝙆: What plans do you have for the coming year?
𝘾𝘼𝙏𝙈𝙄𝙉𝙏: I’m completely focused on my career. My plan is to work really hard, become the best version of myself, and achieve my goals. Performing on big stages, making music, staying healthy, and remaining independent.

Vladyslav Putistin, a prominent DJ hailing from Kyiv, has solidified his status as a cult figure within the burgeoning Ukrainian electronic music scene. Over recent years, he has emerged as a significant contributor, with many artists from the region finding a platform on labels he associates with. His growing influence is not arbitrary; it is a testament to the rich and diverse landscape of Ukrainian electronic music on a global scale.

A fervent collector of vinyl, Vladyslav's distinctive style seamlessly weaves together influences from EBM, Italo Disco, New Beat, Trance and Techno, creating a sonic tapestry that resonates with enthusiasts worldwide. His passion for these genres is not only evident in his DJ sets but also in the podcasts he has curated for respected platforms such as Rinse FM (France), Bitecast (Germany), Gasoline Radio (Ukraine), Expedition Community (Poland), Mechanical Breakdown on KEXP Radio (USA), Blank Wave (Germany), Something Spaecial (Germany).

Vladyslav has left his mark on renowned venues in Kyiv, including ∄ (also known as K-41), Closer, and Keller. Known for curating sets that provide an extraordinary dance experience, Vladyslav infuses each performance with epic themes and an infectious energy of happiness that lingers in the memory long after the music stops.

After the full scale invasion Vladyslav started to produce his own music as a solo artist and as part of a duo with talented Kyiv based artist Lvcerate. Their first EP 'Hot Flashes' was released in early 2024 via Sharped Records. The second one 'Does it still hurt?' followed in August via Emerald and Doreen.
