As a foretaste of ygam's future publications, Catartsis & Ōtone share the single "Springs", a fizzy industrial techno track originally made in 2018 by altering and fusing an array of metal coil springs recordings. Although based on a steady 4-to-the-floor kick pattern, the track plays with the spiralling and unpredictable nature of the recordings' source to create a noisy and frisky piece of club-oriented music.

Alloy-infused rhythms and textures unfold in deliciously subtle industrial breakbeat steppers. Skryptöm celebrates 15 years with a series of four collab EPs. Each artist of the label invited one of their favorite producers for a unique collaboration. A lot has happened over the past 15 years, new musical styles, switch from vinyl to digital and streams… changes that Antoine Husson (aka Electric Rescue) has welcomed with the
same passion since the label creation in 2007. The french imprint has turned into a family of artists and projects, expanding into different musical styles, developing older members and welcoming new ones.
All artists spent days together jamming in the Skryptöm Collective project on various occasions in Caen, Nantes and Morocco before the pandemic. More recently the frequent Skryptöm parties at Nexus and Km25 (Paris) helped bond all artists together.

With this family spirit in mind, all artists had to feature on the compilation and the collabs were a fun way to welcome friends, mentors and inspirations.

We would like to thank all participating artists and hope you enjoy these 20 tracks.

PREMIERE: Ōtone - The Speaking Stones [Inveterate]

The Brvtalist is thrilled to premiere, “In the years of salt lands”, a new track by Berlin-based producer and YGAM label founder Ōtone.  The track is part of a V/A compilation from the label titled, From Our Future Selves, which features 11 different artists such as Zagam, Nina Pixel, Diasiva, Forest People, cplt and many more.  The 12 track project is the label’s first various artist compilation and it was put together with all proceeds going to support Friends of the Earth - an organization aimed at challenging the current model of economic and corporate globalization, while promoting solutions that help to create environmentally sustainable and socially just societies. 

“In The Years Of Salts Lands” kicks off with cold industrial beats, accompanied by repetitive metallic frictions creating an oppressing atmosphere. The second part of the track explores a more rhythmical aspect of techno with slight break beats thus delivering a nearly tribal effect.

The Brvtalist is pleased to premiere a new track from Ōtone. “Slice” comes off the new split EP, Mechanical Gesture, out August 25th on Obscuur. Catartsis & Ōtone explore, both in their collaborative and respective work, a wide spectrum of electronic and electroacoustic music with the practices of field recording and attentive listening at the core of their creative process. Inspired by musique concrète and electroacoustic sonic manipulations, they combine and alter sounds from the real, from their surroundings and from found (mainly metallic) objects. Stemming from this approach, they engage in rhythmical and textural research to elaborate a — peculiar, acousmatic and almost tangible — percussive and club-oriented music. Made using field recordings from various sources, the main one being an industrial paper cutting machine, “Slice” is a pummeling rhythmic work that cuts deeper than it sounds.
