The Brvtalist is pleased to premiere a new track from 2 collaborating artists Catartsis & Ōtone. "Springs" comes off as a single on Berlin based ygam. 

As a foretaste of ygam's future publications, Catartsis & Ōtone share the single "Springs", a fizzy industrial techno track originally made in 2018 by altering and fusing an array of metal coil springs recordings. Although based on a steady 4-to-the-floor kick pattern, the track plays with the spiralling and unpredictable nature of the recordings' source to create a noisy and frisky piece of club-oriented music.

'The Collective Impact' is a compilation double vinyl LP from Berlin's @SubvertedScene label and party-series. The second project of such a size on the label, it assumes the same ethos that surrounds everything Subverted do: promoting non-binary, trans and female identifying artists working in the field of industrial techno, including @Otonenoto.

After an introductory trio of mutant rave 12”s in 2019, Aasthma return, galvanised with hi-EDM-pop sheen and stacked melodies for a more ambitious sound that draws as much from Peder Mannerfelt’s work on Fever Ray records as his and Pär Grindvik’s shapeshifting electronic tekkerz. In a strong sense ‘Arrival’ is effectively a new iteration of hi-tech Swedish dance-pop for the 2020s, summoning the spirits of UK hardcore rave and its trip hop offshoots thru a glossy production prism that winks at Eric Prydz, Avicii and Max Martin, while seamlessly kneading in aspects of footwork, industrial dancehall and hypeR&B-pop. Quite understandably it arrives on Modeselektor’s label, and shares much of the German duo’s thrust toward bigger sound staging, only less fruity and crisply rudely puckered.

HAVEN are back and charging in to the beginning of the year with a new catalogue number and compilation series. 
‘Vague Weight Vol. 1’ launches the black label series that will be focused on the intersection of grime, dubstep, break-beat and other UK bass flavours with the hard and gritty techno sounds the label has become renowned for.
Finally the compilation closes with an odd-ball chunk of 4-4 dub experimentation from Swedish HAVEN legend Peder Mannerfelt, following on from 2020’s ‘Ensnared’ EP. 
Four-to-the-floor kicks flow alongside half-time rhythms and grungy synth work to close out this new chapter in the HAVEN discography.

Influenced by GTA games, the crazy technical instrumentation and chord patterns of 70s Midwest emo, MNLTH and beautiful Aphex ambience...the release holds its own whether at home cerebrum-spinning, in a virtual world of hedonism, or in the sweatiest nightclubs.

Having built up his production craft in his now Clapton-based home studio, whilst also starting to DJ more via a monthly Threads Radio show, the future looks bright, bewildering and bonkers for Dan Ellis. The Brvtalist is pleased to premiere a new track from Ōtone. “Slice” comes off the new split EP, Mechanical Gesture, out August 25th on Obscuur. Catartsis & Ōtone explore, both in their collaborative and respective work, a wide spectrum of electronic and electroacoustic music with the practices of field recording and attentive listening at the core of their creative process. Inspired by musique concrète and electroacoustic sonic manipulations, they combine and alter sounds from the real, from their surroundings and from found (mainly metallic) objects. Stemming from this approach, they engage in rhythmical and textural research to elaborate a — peculiar, acousmatic and almost tangible — percussive and club-oriented music. Made using field recordings from various sources, the main one being an industrial paper cutting machine, “Slice” is a pummeling rhythmic work that cuts deeper than it sounds.
