Southern California’s Selective Response is what happens when dedication to self-expression and hard work meet an insatiable passion for techno. The latest release on his Crisis Of Man imprint is testament to an innate capability for avant-garde production and boundary-crossing acoustic vision. ‘Modern Romance’ samples a plethora of hard-dance influence, delivered alongside a handpicked team of uniquely profound artists with individual spins on the raucous original mix.

Released on 5th August, ‘Modern Romance’ is a pulsating techno record with driving beats and rave-inspired acid lines. Combining a pounding core of solid drums and knife-life hat sequences with an explicit vocal topline, its modulating analogue feel delivers a worthy peak-time dancefloor weapon. Dave N.A. provides the first of the accompanying remixes, which will be packaged into the second part of the release out on the 19 th August, combining rambunctious breakbeat rhythms to carve out an instant classic - reminiscent of the early days of jungle. Luciid treads an industrial techno line, serving up a relentlessly warehouse-worthy remix at breakneck speeds that will heat the soles of even the thickest stomping boots. RS:VC rounds off the release with another electrifying remix offering. Leaping fearlessly into the realm of hardcore, this interpretation will quench the thirst of even the most seasoned ravers, injecting a ferocious stream of hammering kicks and piercing percs alongside eerie melodic layers and hair-raising drops.

ALKHEMY’s The Black Hole turns three years-old, and to celebrate, the Brooklyn-based collective has called upon some of the mightiest in the galaxy to create this dance floor-ready compilation. The 27 artists featured on this VA were invited to participate by combining their signature production styles with a Black Hole-inspired twist, to showcase a range of the world’s raviest sounds. Over a third of the participating artists have headlined The Black Hole for their US debut or NY debut, including, Scan 7, Plural (Kukri), Keepsakes, D. Carbone, 138, Axel Picodot and WarinD. Each providing a nostalgic glimpse into their respective journeys through Brooklyn’s favorite galactic rave. The remaining artists have brought forth their own unique sounds, creating an undeniably powerful collection of tracks that will leave a lasting mark on 2019.

The compilation is just as diverse as the dance floors at The Black Hole and as well as the lineups assembled by ALKHEMY. Proudly bringing artists from the US, South America and Europe together. Another example of the power that lays behind unity.

The cover art, which was inspired by the iconic flyers of The Black Hole, who are always put together by Danny Garber, was designed by Detroit legend, Alan Oldham aka DJ T-1000. Being that ALKHEMY’s mission is to highlight diversity in techno, Alan carried on the tradition of The Black Hole’s flyers where people of color and women are showcased in a powerful manner. Keeping the mastering mainly in-house, 80% of the tracks were mastered by ALKHEMY’s Buzzi.

Hellcat Industries is the latest scheme from the forever audacious bbbbbb family, focusing on cheeky dance floor bangers channelling the fun 90s not-so-serious techno anthems combined with the bbb oddball spirit, the modernised sound of 2k20 future stars and mad in-house label artwork.

‘Chanting from a Tiny Book’ is the second chapter of Hellcat where Bjarki and VTSS split a twelve inch together. H311CAT02 follows the success of the first V/A with VTSS, Cadency, Kuldaboli and Bjarki on board, and continues sharing the tales of the cat from hell.

After the behind the scenes work VTSS did as curator of the first V/A, the bbb team unanimously invited the polish selector and producer to continue her involvement with Hellcat naming her the labels A&R. The tracks selected by VTSS for the second installation include her own productions with the banging ‘Batman Church’ and the more anthemic ‘How to Win Big’, complemented by the BBBBBB-SIDE which features Hellfire and Safety Savage from Bjarki - tunes VTSS has playing relentlessly in her sets over the past year.

The two collaborators come from quite different backgrounds but have been working together for two years finding and embracing a common ground and mission - to bring back the fun to techno.

The labels plans for 2020 include a couple of V/A’s and EP’s putting attention on maybe still a bit lesser known artists but with (in the eyes of Bjarki & VTSS) a bright future - another crucial mission of HELLCAT - with remixes from the label daddy and mommy included in digital form for every release.
