Just months after the release of his debut LP, Full Frontal Lunacy, Vexillary is back with a refreshed sound on his sophomore effort, Crash and Yearn.

Taking a rhythmic approach to darkwave and adding more vocals to the mix, Vexillary presents an evolved and more mature sound that evokes an emotional response from the listener throughout its 9 energetic tracks.

Loosely based on the Fall of Icarus, Crash and Yearn thematically takes the listener on a sonic journey destined for a doomed end that’s fully worth its pleasures along the way. “Your burnt wings tell a story, of odd fascinations one should never speak of” sings guest vocalist Baylee on the title track—crystalizing the concept of the album.

From the griping opener ‘Come as Your Madness’, to the emotive album closer ‘The Fall’, Vexillary has crafted a cohesive technoid opera, ripe with decadent lyrics and lush production.

Ultimately, much like Icarus, with Crash and Yearn we’re witnessing Vexillary leveling up and pushing his limits as a producer and songwriter for our listening pleasure, with little regard for the sacrifices along the way.

Wodawater, a label based in Glasgow, Scotland, presents a mini-album from the label’s founder, TRSSX. The album has gone through many iterations since it began taking shape back in 2017. It hybridises various club-related and experimental music genres, and was inspired by the various scenes TRSSX was a part of in that time (Chicago, New York, Krakow and Glasgow). The album features heavily processed instruments, distortion and noise set against polyrhythmic industrial narratives. Scythe Down the Truth comes out on super limited 16-copy transparent vinyl edition and digitally on the 1st of November. TRSSX is a producer and sound artist based in Glasgow. He runs WODA event series in Krakow, Poland, and Fundamentals in Glasgow. He’s part of the duo Man Fear.

For The Nursery’s 20th release – an anniversary in itself – the Argentinian music machine Vladw makes his second appearance on Dynamic Reflection’s sub label. And quite an appearance it is. Even after putting out an insane amount of music since 2013, a stagnation in his productions is still nowhere to be found.

Exactly one year after his first contribution to the label, his ‘Lucid Minds EP’ hits the surface, and to say that it does its name justice would be an understatement. It floats from the acidic influences found in ‘Here, nobody surrenders’ and ‘The history will absolve me’, to the straight forward vibe on the second track, and the beautiful soundscape on the third. 

Even with this seemingly huge variety in styles, all of them are executed with equally high skill and ear for detail. This compelling composition of four very divergent tracks underlines Vladw’s talent and creativity, and to choose one favourite from it would be near impossible.
