Swarm Intelligence’s unique take on industrial techno is back, with the second instalment on his self-titled label, coming this November.

Fiercely intense, dramatic and cutting-edge, Swarm Intelligence’s distinctive take on techno has garnered him a solid following amongst the true underground of the scene. Following on from the widely supported launch of his label, SWRM002 is a striking next step – a testament to the quiet confidence of a skilled artist unafraid to eschew norms and carve his own path. This second EP continues to draw inspiration from dystopian themes of new and imagined technologies and their resulting societal impact.

‘Critical Signal’ was produced during the global pandemic, and iteratively refined over the following years. Grinding basses and tense atmospherics sit atop a thunderous four-to-the-floor. Its message to humanity is as relevant now as it was then – “you are resilient, you will prevail”. In ‘Mass Disinformation’ a visceral, bleak and unsettling sonic landscape punctuated by a slamming groove is an apt metaphor for the psychological warfare being unleashed on the world today.

Opening the B-side, the uplifting glory of ‘Digital Immortality’ lifts the tone of the release. Here, Swarm’s signature glitchy, broken beats complement beautiful melodic swells and a rolling bass line. The track imagines a digital afterlife where, upon uploading our consciousness, we leave our bodies behind. Bringing the EP to a close, “Singularity Dawns” is the most freeform, cinematic composition. Its obscure broken rhythms and traversing sequence tells the tale of an AI becoming self-aware and discovering its capacity to feel.

Ferozmente intensa, dramática y vanguardista, la visión distintiva del techno de Swarm Intelligence le ha ganado un gran número de seguidores entre el verdadero underground de la escena. Siguiendo desde el lanzamiento de su sello, SWRM002, que cuenta con un gran apoyo, es un siguiente paso sorprendente: un testimonio de la tranquila confianza de un artista experto que no teme evitar las normas y forjar su propio camino. Este segundo EP continúa inspirándose en temas distópicos de tecnologías nuevas e imaginadas y su impacto social resultante.
'Critical Signal' se produjo durante la pandemia global y se perfeccionó de forma iterativa durante los años siguientes. Bajos chirriantes y atmósferas tensas se asientan sobre un atronador cuatro al suelo. Su mensaje a la humanidad es tan relevante ahora como lo era entonces: “eres resistente y prevalecerás”. 
En 'Disinformation Era', un paisaje sonoro visceral, sombrío e inquietante puntuado por un ritmo contundente es una metáfora adecuada de la guerra psicológica que se está desatando en el mundo de hoy.

Al abrir la cara B, la edificante gloria de 'Digital Immortality' eleva el tono del lanzamiento. Aquí, los ritmos rotos y con fallas característicos de Swarm complementan hermosas ondas melódicas y una línea de bajo ondulante. La pista imagina una vida futura digital donde, al cargar nuestra conciencia, dejamos atrás nuestros cuerpos. Para cerrar el EP, “Singularity Dawns” es la más libre de las composiciones cinematográficas. Sus ritmos oscuros entrecortados y su secuencia transversal cuentan la historia de una IA que se vuelve consciente de sí misma y descubre su capacidad de sentir.

An awesome new addition to the Rant & Rave roster, Codex Empire is the main project of Vienna-based UK producer Mahk Rumbae who has been active with music since the late 1980s. Most will recognize Mahk for his standout work as both Codex Empire and Antechamber on aufnahme + wiedergabe, HORO, Instruments of Discipline and Sacred Court among dozens of other projects: mitra mitra, Toxic Frequency, Oppenheimer MKII (to name just a few). Mahk is also a member of the classic early 80s industrial act Konstruktivists, whose unique and challenging atmospherics and experimental sounds helped pave the way for much of what we experience today. Rather than DJing, Codex Empire only performs as a live act, and has taken his darkly intense but infinitely danceable live shows around the world. For Rant & Rave Records, Codex Empire demonstrates a knack for bent and twisted electronic soundscapes, which steadily expand behind militant rhythms that will take over any dancefloor. ‘Overneed’ is all sonicpsychological, with great percussive elements and tone. ‘Anthem Cackler', ‘Stone Faction', and ‘Frozen Fugitive round out this EP, all carefully crafted with a subtly psychedelic attitude.

Aside from the 2 colossal solo-tracks, this EP includes 2 collaborations with Scalameriya. There was a legend that the universe will cease to exist if these 2 ever joined forces. The legend has proven to be a fact, but luckily Void+1 Industries had fail-safe mechanisms in place to prevent this event from happening. Everything seems to be fine, just ignore that little tear in the sky, it is only a side-effect and will go away on its own... (probably).
