The Party's Over

Before we played at Glastonbury on the BBC Introducing stage in 2008 we were asked by the people behind Steve Lamacq's "In New Music We Trust" feature on Radio 1 to come up with something about the Teesside music scene. 

We went to watch Rolo Tomassi upstairs at Doc Browns pub in Middlesbrough and this is what we came up with.

Summer Song

Downloadable version of The Chapman Family song "Sound of the Radio" from 2009, (recorded in 2008 in London with Dan Swift). The track was eventually exclusively released on the Japanese singles collection mini LP (released in 2010).

The song was released in a different form in 2011 on the album "Burn Your Town" and was again given another reworking for live performances when the new line up of Pop, Kingsley, Scott, Owen and Kevin got together.

Sound Of The Radio (Japan only release, 2009)

Downloadable version of The Chapman Family song "Feel The Hurt" from 2009, (recorded in summer 2009 in Brighton with Dan Swift). The track was finally released on a Japanese singles collection mini LP entitled "KIDS" (released in 2010 to coincide with the band supporting the Stereophonics in Tokyo).

It was originally intended to be the follow up UK single to "Kids" in autumn 2009 but the song "Virgins" was eventually chosen instead.

Feel The Hurt (Japan only release 2009)

"You Are Not Me" was The Chapman Family's debut single from late 2007 released on Stockton based label "Don't Tell Clare" and produced by the (then) drummer Phil. It was recorded in various tiny rooms in Phils house near Darlington and in Pig Pen Studios (a set of practice rooms made from a converted pig farm) near Hartlepool. The release was a double A-sided single along with a song called "You Think You're Funny" and was manufactured on bright pink 7" vinyl with a hand painted sleeve. Only 200 were made.

"You Are Not Me" was the first song by the band to get played on Radio One - on Huw Stephens' late night new music show - and was integral in getting the band a slot at the 2008 Glastonbury Festival on the BBC Introducing Stage.

The other song, "You Think You're Funny," managed to shoehorn its way on to a compilation album put together by Leeds label Dance To The Radio - one of the founders of which went on to do live sound for the band in 2011. 

You Are Not Me (2007)

"Cover version" of the Crowded House song "Don't Dream It's Over" by Kingsley and the then drummer Phil for an art exhibition called "Learning To Love You More" curated by Nicky Peacock in Middlesbrough in 2008.

Kingsley was desensitized by being covered in gaffer tape around the eyes, face, arms and legs and microphones were attached to his heart as headphones were stuck to his ears. The Crowded House song "Don't Dream It's Over" was pumped into his brain at a very loud volume and his heart beat was amplified through a PA. This audio track was played over the top to aid the audience with understanding what was going on.

Don't Dream It's Over (2008)

"Lies" is another song that was an integral part of The Chapman Family's live set between 2008 and 2011. It's about paranoia, confusion and the feeling of being able to see through the lies of people in positions of authority but not being able to do a thing about it. The noise and feedback in the music of the song was supposed to mirror the feeling of panic and terror in the lyrics. The band themselves were so passionate about the song that they wanted it to be a central focal point of their debut album. However, seemingly everyone else in the world disagreed.

This is a version recorded at Green Dragon Studios in Stockton-on-Tees in early 2010.

Lies

The Chapman Family's cover of the Kate Bush classic from 1980 "Army Dreamers" recorded in Green Dragon Studios in Stockton-on-Tees in early 2011. It was released as a free download for a brief period in late 2011 to coincide with the "November Offensive" tour around the UK and was one of the last songs recorded with the old line up of Kingsley, Pop, Paul and Phil.

The band chose to cover it due to warmongering tensions building up all over the world and soldiers dying in every corner of the globe - the song seemed just as relevant in the twenty first century (if not more so) as it ever did before.

All That's Left To Break

We were a rock band from the North East of England and enjoyed writing and performing music at various levels of volume between the years 2006 and 2013.

We released our final single, "We Stick Together," on the day we performed our final concert - Friday July 26th 2013.

In 2009 we topped the MySpace Chart on MTV in the UK with our debut single "Kids" and went on to be the first ever completely unsigned band to appear on the NME Radar Tour. We've released countless singles as well as our debut album "Burn Your Town" in 2011 and a follow up EP entitled "Cruel Britannia" in summer 2012.
