Coming from the traffic-saturated streets and lo-fi screamo scene of Mexico City, rising producer Max Jones makes his debut on Correspondant with the Cornetto EP. 

Lead cut “Cornetto” starts things off in the label’s signature style of deep, dark dancefloor warmups, with a live-feel percussive line and foggy drones shot through with confrontational midrange sirens. “Uh Oh” opens at a clip with an electrified, alien pulse, but keeps to the stripped-back core elements of thrashing cymbals and two alternating vocal samples. “Slow feat. Mijo” finds Jones teaming up with ongoing collaborator Alec Sander in a sinister, new wave-inspired cut, built around a narcotic vocal mantra and resonant, oscillating synths, while the minimal, throbbing bassline of “L.M.M” follows its own trail into a sonic wormhole, offset by crispy hi-hats to round out the EP. 

Cornetto follows previous label releases Polina, from Agents of Time, and The Ballroom collaborative 12” from Jennifer Cardini and David Shaw, and will see a vinyl and digital release on September 22.

Almost 10 years after he announced himself with that ​livewire remix of The Gossip's 'Standing In The Way Of Control', Tronik Youth is releasing his debut album this summer. 

Neil Parnell's got a shed load of frantic productions in his back catalogue, with tracks like 'We Are' on Back Yard Recordings a prime example of his electro credentials back in 2006, and last year's 'Edible Thoughts' providing a taste of his disco leanings nowadays. 

The Nein Records boss introduced his forthcoming album with the cosmic ruggedness of 'Splinter Of A Mind's Eye' earlier this year, and it's time for the follow-up, 'The Healer, with remixes from Emperor Machine, Daniele Baldelli & DJ Rocca, Chris Massey and Max Jones.

2018 sees Hulkkonen celebrate the 25th anniversary of his debut release. That’s a quarter of a century to all you non-mathematicians! “In a way I wanted to do an album that continues the journey I’ve been on with these last 4 albums on My Favorite Robot Records, but I also wanted to add some references to some of my older releases, you know for the true heads out there”, Jori quietly whispers from behind his trademark wineglass and a cigarette.
Starting off with futuristic and dark r’n’b sung by Jori himself in Finnish, ‘6n Jaakaappi’ was constructed almost entirely of samples recorded from a very noisy fridge backstage at legendary Helsinki club, Kuudes Linja. Next up, ‘Black Rainbow is an instrumental funeral ballad with a slavic vibe, mixed with an 808 and funky drummer beats. Classic Jori.

“On the Road to Miero” was written after musical novice Hulkkonen went to see a true maestro, Ennio Morricone performing live in Finland some while back. Incorporating elements from deep house and an ethereal vocal performance from up-and-coming Finnish artist Leeko, the track was Jori trying to “sound as Italian as possible and not failing completely”. Something he pulls off with aplomb!

Finally, “Plastic Freedom” revisits some of the Detroit-esque sound and rhythm scapes of Jori’s classic releases back in the 90’s. As opposed to modern DAW-based productions, it was recorded as a live jam and edited down later.
This wonderfully varied selection raises the question as to whether the album will fill in the gaps between these eclectic tracks so take the listener further into the outer realms of sound and space.  The answer will come in September.

Duro ejects into the second part of the year with Berlin-based producer Etcha delivering his sophomore release on the Mexican imprint; an astronomical adventure entitled ‘Confucius Says’. These 2 new exciting original cuts are filled with inter-planetary bleeps and grandiose pads, that along with remixes from Marvin & Guy and Bird Of Paradise make an outstanding pack for the late-night record spinner. Currently at the forefront of a new generation of Berlin producers, Etcha has also appeared on labels such as his own Exoplanets, Voll Schön, and more. 

The trip starts with “Confucius Says”, where a mystical, astral melody synth carries us along with a muffled Italo bass, as if we were traveling across a dense nebulae of sound on board of a retro-futuristic spaceship piloted by small green mysterious creatures on glittering space suits. Bird of Paradise takes this to paranoiac territories: an insistent, rolling bass makes us realise that moment where we have landed in a strange, remote planet, while danger seems just ahead us. 

“Operation Oskar Panizza”, the second original track, prepares us for battle. The snare-propelled-guitars are our weapons against the fatigue derived by a night full of wonders and chuggy basslines. At the end of the expedition, Marvin & Guy brilliantly push us into a new arpeggiated journey, right into the middle of the after-hours galaxy.

The creation of Rizzoknor‘s track ERIN is worth a little story.
As a sound engineer, Daniel Rizzo meets loads of gifted musicians year after year. On this particular night he met the Berlin-based singer Erin Lang. Still amazed by the performance of this exceptional artist, he dives back in his memories listening to the recordings of Erin‘s concert. That‘s where the guitar lick on Erin‘s Track „Carried away“ caught his attention. Building upon this hypnotic guitar melody, he will create a new composition.
That‘s how Rizzoknor‘s track Erin, a kind of remix in some way, was created. This process will be repeated in the „ERIN REMIXED„ series, from one edit to the other. For Vol.2 we invited three artists to rework ORGAN MUGs edit from Vol.1: GREGORYTHME from Lausanne, PSYCHO WEAZEL from Neuchâtel and LOU FAIT DU SON from Zurich. The music that emerged from the process is suprisingly well balanced between House, Techno, Kraut and Trip Hop vibes.

The Compilation Erin Remixed Vol.2 will be released May 1st 2020 on the Zurich based label RAVE U R. Here go the Chinese whispers and we are very excited to see where this journey will take us. Three talented musicians are already working on remixes of GREGORYTHMEs edit. Vol. 3 coming soon!
