In 2016, while in my last year of graduate school at Harvard/American Repertory Theatre I came across an essay titled, "Black Gay Shaminism of Ancient Egypt: The Gaytekeepers and the Golden Beetle". After reading this essay a light bulb went off in my head.

For so long I felt like I was living fragmented selves. Caring too much about what others think. My spirituality was over here, my sexuality was over there and my desire to make music was up in the cosmos somewhere. I didn't know there was a space for me. I didn't know I had to create it. I didn't know this was my destiny. God and my spirit guides did. This is:

“Comfortable” is both a celebration and an introduction. It’s saying that I love who I am, exactly how and where I am today. Flaws and all. My intention is freedom. My intention is love. This is who I am. Ever-evolving and becoming. I invite you all to take this journey with me as I grow and transform and rise to the dance that is life. This album came straight from my heart and soul. Recorded in the thick of my self-quarantine during this global pandemic. It's an ode to growth. To expansion. To rising above your fears, insecurities, pain, betrayal and disappointment and taking healing into your own hands. It's about communicating with your higher self but simultaneously giving yourself the space and freedom to express the full complexity of your emotions and experience. Carving out a safe space for yourself. It's personal. Vulnerable. Hopefully relatable. It's raw. It's real. It's a window into my process. I hope it helps someone to heal and grow as well.

This music thang has been a long time coming. I grew up in Brooklyn, New York where my first dream was music. My father produced music and I remember wanting to emulate him.  As a kid, I carried around a little blue briefcase packed to the rim with song lyrics. At some point that dream was placed on hold out of fear. I didn't trust my voice or that I was good enough. Today I'm ready say, "F*** fear" and get out of my own way. I'm ready to fly. I'm ready to soar. I'm ready to heal. Leap with me.
