[XY] - Experimental Sessions Փ

With great pleasure we welcome the colombian artist and label owner of From A Lost Place @launaea for our tenth episode of the Herbarium mix series.
He chose the very special plant Espeletia, also called frailejón for his musical journey.

The frailejón is a distinctive high-altitude plant found in the paramo ecosystems of the Andes mountains in South America. It is characterized by its rosette-like arrangement of leaves, which are covered in fine hairs to retain water and protect against harsh environmental conditions. Frailejones play a vital role in the ecosystem, serving as water reservoirs and providing habitat for various species.
They reach imposing heights, cover vast tracts of terrain and transform the landscape of the páramos into a green tapestry that blends with the sky and mist, allowing those who contemplate it to immerse themselves in its natural majesty. This adaptation and resistance of the plant could be metaphorically compared to the intrinsic energy of this podcast immersing the listener in a world of intense, challenging and constantly evolving sounds, transporting them into an immersive and emotional listening experience.

Welcome to another edition of our XY experimental section.

In this case, we're glad to introduce Ricardo, aka Lateral Movement:
In the nineties a move to the UK came as a consequence of his studies and with him a pulsating eagerness which helped Lateral Movement to dive right into the local music culture, effervescent as ever. There he meandered effortlessly through genres, taking him deeper into the arts whilst aiding his curiosity, from free jazz to indietronica. Returning to his homeland, Portugal, subtracted him from this rich diversity and forced him to become a strong supporter of the alternative scenes, where he looked to push people and projects that shared his values and vision. There and then he decided to embark on a different kind of journey and took upon himself the responsibility of discovering new music and to share it with the community. To this day techno and its many guises are his passion, especially the deeper and hypnotic realms, where ambience and atmosphere play the main role.

In this occasion, he is bringing to our speakers a carefully crafted and very cohesively selected session, composed mainly by deep intrincated beats and surrounding trippy drums,

CODECAST XY - Lateral Movement - Tempo Rush

For our eleventh episode of our Herbarium mix series, we invite the gifted french producer and DJ @clarencerise. His unique sound signature can be sensed in his very well curated mix. Clarence chose the plant Digitalis Purpurea for his journey, also known as foxglove. He put together some beautiful thoughts about this unique species and its connection to his musical work:
Sublime and fascinating, deadly and curative, Digitalis Purpurea is the perfect symbol of ambivalence. It grows along most of the paths in the temperate forest of the Vosges, my roots, so it's been present throughout my whole life. This ambivalence can be found in my work. Its dangerousness makes it disquieting, like the evolution of the podcast. Its healing properties against tachycardia (illustrated by the increasing rhythm) make it an ally, a remedy.

a continuous drive conducted by steady grooves and a keen sensitivity.

"Also known as Malii Yorks, I'm an Amsterdam based artist who is passionate about making refined ceramics and composing deep rhythms within the spectrum of techno as a genre. 

This recording shows my love for deep percussive techno rhythms and was made in the period when I was moving to another house and therefore had no studio for a while. It was a warm week with high temperatures so I often sat outside on the balcony with a small controller recording mixes. This one contains some of my favs and some tracks of my own."

After belonging to the Move and Skyzoo Spanish collectives in the mid-90s, Fran Campos (@fran-campos) became part in the 2000's of the team of residents of Le Club and in the organization of the Observatori festival . In 2010 begins Black Label, a monthly party at Miniclub, where, for 5 years, he unveiled his Housier side. Then he was busy with his residency at Jerusalem Club, Caravaca (Proper Club), and with the organization and residency of the Taiga parties in Madrid, betting on contemporary Techno with a deep character. Currently, he continues to be interested in the most avant-garde musical currents that Techno hosts, from Ambient to Deep Techno, through Electro, Halftime, and even D&B. Always selecting the best music at the periphery of the industry.
