@Rudikastic is an up-and-coming producer from Limpopo, South Africa.  He has been producing house music for the last two years and combines elements from old school house, jazz, soul, disco and hip pop.  Influenced by groovy bass lines and soulful melodies, he has moulded his style to create a unique, blissful and sublime sound of his own.  

With successful releases on well-respected record labels such as Smashing Trax Records, Rogue Decibels, 4th Set Records, Velvet Bassment Records, Moulton Music and Oh So Coy Recordings, he is a fast-growing and versatile producer to watch out for!  He has also just released his first track under this own label, ‘Let It Play Records.’

Since discovering his music, late last year, I have been supporting him heavily ... his music speaks to me and I feel it completely ... so I’m really happy and excited to share with you, my Rudi’Kastic Retrospective … ❤️

Rudi'Kastic Retrospective

It is our divine pleasure to welcome back to the fold one of our favourite ever guests. We've hosted Dave twice now under the guise of both his record labels Hustler Trax and Closer To Truth and both mixes have received overwhelmingly positive responses!

Today Dave returns under his Closer To Truth Label (co-run with Alex Agore) based down in Bournemouth. Closer To Truth  focus on intrinsically deep records with luscious rolling deep basslines, elements of jazz, dreamy vocals & soul however they do suprise with the odd bit of bump 'n' swing. Their back catalogue boasts EP's from Henna Onna, Jason Hersco, Tree Threes, Immersif, Tiptoes, Milton Jackson, Marlon George & Intr0beatz to pick from just a few!

We're delighted to say that this mix features plenty of forthcoming & exclusive records signed to Closer To Truth with varied release dates from later this month to early next year. Darius is a self proclaimed "House Addict". He fell in love with the house sound as a teenager living in Montreal back in the early '90s when he would stay up late on Friday nights and record a dance mix show on Montreal radio. He was hooked from then on. He then proceeded to start mixing with one tape deck and a CD player and never looked back.

When he moved to Vancouver in the late '90's, he started buying records almost daily and spent most of his free time at his favourite record stores at the time, Bassix and Mekanix records. Over the next few years, Darius held various residencies and ran 2 club nights in Vancouver, playing alongside such talent as Lawnchair Generals and Johnny Fiasco, as well as playing at numerous after hours and raves. After getting tired of both the late nights and politics in the scene, he decided it was time to hang up the headphones in the early 2000s, but the love of house music still burned inside of him as the years passed.

In 2013 he decided he wanted to get back into DJ'ing and purchased a basic Pioneer controller and started to collect digital tracks again. Over the past few years Darius has been busy making a name for himself in the underground scene with numerous guest mix appearances around the world on such labels as House Salad, Reason2Funk, Uglyhouse, Little Routine, Selecta Music, Leven Underground and House Jet Radio just to name a few. He also started the very popular "SPEED BUMPS" mix series which showcases his love for hip hop and jazz as he shows his versatility as a DJ by blending mixes of nu jazz, hip hop instrumentals and acid jazz flavours reminiscent of Mark Farina's legendary series, Mushroom Jazz.

He also launched the hugely successful "Soul Room Sessions" podcast showcasing the soulful and jazzy side of house music and downtempo beats with guest mixes from some of the biggest names in the game and the series is still going strong!

In 2017 Darius got his first taste of out of town gigging playing live shows all over the West Coast from his hometown in Vancouver, to San Francisco and Oakland. Stay tuned for much more from him in the near future!
