For the 6th edition of our Grooveology guest-mix series we are delighted to welcome one of our favourite UK-based labels, Moment Cinetique, back to the platform for what is another stellar set. Just hit the link in our bio.

Delivered by label boss, Dave Platts, it’s a perfect blend of highs and lows as he takes us through the motions with deep flavours from Frits Wentink and Keita Sano perfectly contrasted with uplifting tones from Sweet Fruity Brunch, Nebraska and Tree Threes, the latter of which featuring twice on the mix with some great new and forthcoming music by way of the Moment Cinetique label. For the final 3rd of the set, Dave ramps up the energy with some hedonistic vibes from Kaffe Crème, Sudden Moves and Lay-far, on labels such as Pomme Frite, Freerange and Slothboogie to name a few

Its deep, its disco and its house all at the same time. A great representation of the label and the sounds that Dave works so hard to curate. We thank him for his time as always and hope that you enjoy the mix as much as we do!

It is a great pleasure to introduce to you our latest guest mixers on our Grooveology series, Shaka Loves You

Originally hailing from the Highlands of Scotland Jamie & Marty met in Glasgow in 2011 and Shaka Loves You was born. 
As DJs, they have supported De La Soul, David Rodigan, Joey Negro, The Relfex, Jurassic 5 & Mr Scruff. Their eclectic sets fuse & draw on many influences, from funk & soul to boogie, disco & house all mixed with tight live percussion

SLY also operate as a production duo and their releases have gained support & airtime from BBC Radio 1, 2 & 6 and has also attracted the attention of Mixmag, DJ Mag, Ministry Of Sound & Glitterbox Radio Show. 2022 saw SLY recieve accolades for the 'Best Of Scotland' in the national press!

Legendary soul DJ Craig Charles once said "If you don't like these guys then throw away your ears". Luckily, we love SLY which means we have our ears and thank goodness as their input for Grooveology is fantastic. A one hour mix crafted of Edits and Nu Disco delights, it's not to be missed!

Fred Aster is based in Luanda, Angola 🇦🇴  and knows a thing or two about deep house. From a production standpoint he has released on labels such as Rewind & DOBRO with a signature low key jazz infused sound. He also heads up Blur Records, a label which he formulated in 2019. Over the past 4 years Blur have released music from deep house heavyweights such as Joint4Nine, Tree Threes, Iner, Vicmari & DJ Windows 7

Fred also hosts an incredible monthly deep house radio show on Germanys 🇩🇪 very own Radio Electronica. His show is titled 'Luanda Underground' and it explores the best new deep house releases. Its one of our favourite shows and we always check it as soon as it drops so make sure you do too

For this weeks edition of Grooveology we pass the buck over to a DJ who's well ahead of her years in terms of choice and selection Bear Winder

Born in Spain and bred in South London, Bear is a mixed medley of deep and raw with a flair of bump and soul, inspired by the Underground House & Garage scene of the UK, enticed to the deeper and more soulful sounds of the Balearic Islands very much inspired by her summers spent on the White Isle as a kid in the 90’s and as an adult.

Bear’s 10-year DJ career has seen her prominently carve out her unique sound which makes her a regular in London’s clubbing scene, UK festivals, Ibiza & beyond.

Appearing on many of London’s most loved Underground Dance and Electronic music radio stations over the years, Bear also holds down a residency with ‘Select Radio’ and ‘The Garage House Radio’.

Last year saw Bear debut her own brand and event 'OSO:DEN' championing the sounds and artists of the underground, as well as releasing her first track and collaboration as an artist, with her debut solo release set to drop this May, and having spent the last couple of years getting her teeth into production, you can expect a few more tunes dropping from Bear throughout 2023.

Over the past 2 years she has also featured on the Traxsource Live mix series along with the Pogo House Records Podcast. Both of which are worth getting your ears round.

Australia is the destination for our most recent edition to the Grooveology mix-series, courtesy of a DJ & Production duo, Melbourne Drum Authority.

With a debut release back in 2020 on Refuge Recordings with their ’Natural High’ EP, they’ve since gone on to deliver their signature jacking house and filtered disco-house tones by the way of labels such as Sense Traxx and Lisztomania.

It was inevitable that the sort of energy that the lads bring to their production was going to translate into their sets, and if its high-tempo, peak-time dance floor action that you are after then you’ve come to the right place with this guest-mix. Featuring music from James Juke, Hijak and an absolute weapon of a closer from Mood II Swing’s John Ciafone, this will have you locked in from start to finish.

Edition 12 of our Grooveology series has us hosting Jeff Swiff from Minneapolis in the US. Jeff is a producer of predominantly deep house music which spans across multiple formats including dusty jazz to bumpin swing house. He has released original productions and remixes on such labels as Blur, Scruniversal & Sugar Shack Records.

A Minneapolis dance music enthusiast and DJ with over a decade of strong roots in all that is funky, bouncy and jazzy (with a tint of soul) is finally pulling from these elements of love and dance floors, and infusing these ideas into his productions. Jeff Swiff has been focusing on what moves the soul and combines these influences, to create memorable sounds with essential vibes. When asked, why house music? “When I found house, the sounds took me to a different place and really set the tone for how the rest of my life would feel, and I’ve spent every moment since then trying to share the essential feeling that the music brings me to the heads in my community and across the world.”

Together with Christian James, he runs the incredible Nicewon Recordings where the pair express their production talent in purveying deep, rolling and groovy beats. Nicewon have been releasing wonderfully sounding EPs since 2017 and continue the press forward with rich deep house joints to this day

Jeff's mix is a 1 hour affair of lofi jazz house, rolling dubby deep groove & bumpy house. Don't forget to check out the Nicewon back catalogue which is available across Traxsource, Beatport & Bandcamp!

It is our divine pleasure to welcome back to the fold one of our favourite ever guests. We've hosted Dave twice now under the guise of both his record labels Hustler Trax and Closer To Truth and both mixes have received overwhelmingly positive responses!

Today Dave returns under his Closer To Truth Label (co-run with Alex Agore) based down in Bournemouth. Closer To Truth  focus on intrinsically deep records with luscious rolling deep basslines, elements of jazz, dreamy vocals & soul however they do suprise with the odd bit of bump 'n' swing. Their back catalogue boasts EP's from Henna Onna, Jason Hersco, Tree Threes, Immersif, Tiptoes, Milton Jackson, Marlon George & Intr0beatz to pick from just a few!

Our guest this week is no stranger to our platform having been featured across both of our radio shows previously. Originally from round the way but now located up in Liverpool, T Sounds has been killing it since his last appearance.

Tom has recently released on Blur Records and Closer To Truth. His most recent release displays his signature sound. Crisp hats & dreamy pads unite on the Sanctuary EP on theBasement Discos. A 3 track EP which includes a remix from the bouncing house extraordinaire Hatt.D.

Tom has come through as always with an energetic selection of house records, from dreamy & hypnotic grooves to bumpin house. He plays records from The Journeymen, Naux, Madvilla & Tour-Mabourg as well as a couple of his own records 'Want To' from the Sanctuary EP & the unreleased 'On Demand'.

There’s no relenting on the calibre of quality when it comes to the guest mixes on the Grooveology series, and this week we are delighted to welcome the talented DJ & Producer K. Wilson to the fold.

Beginning his musical journey on some of London’s stand-out pirate radio stations, Kieran was soon honing his skills at some of the biggest spots on the circuit, no less so Studio 338, Ministry of Sound and Printworks. Combining a passion for music with an entrepreneurial spirit has led Kieran down the path of opening his own Shoreditch-based record shop, Shrubs & Dubs, while his  technical ability behind the decks has led him to the London Sound Academy where he spends his time tutoring the next generation of talent.

As for the set today, Kieran has brought us a diverse, heady mix ranging from deep, driving piano house and bumpy 4/4 through to garage and acid-layered beats, and featuring music from St. David, Cinthie, Kerri Chandler and Bernardo Mota.

The brainchild of previous guest to the series, Bear Winder, the OSO:DEN parties aim to push the boundaries of the deeper, soulful side of House, fusing it with underground Garage both old and new. The party comes with a simple mantra, aiming to provide a platform for artists who champion the sound, as well as the long-standing connoisseurs who led the way in the 90’s and early 00’s. We can certainly get down with that! This is echoed throughout the mix with music from Kiko Navarro, DirtyTwo, Demuja and Jimpster to name but a few.

Our Grooveology guest this week is the mighty DJ Vital. A collector and selector of the highest order, Vital has been spinning since 1996.

Known for his taste in the golden era of house music, just as that US bumping sound was birthing the early garage records, Vital knows his way around peak 90s music. Many of you will have seen the incredible Housegarageclassics account in Insta, with snippets recorded live and direct from his record room. On a personal level this has reminded us of so many incredible tracks and reignited them though our sets.

Get over those post Christmas blues with some post Christmas grooves from our latest guest mixer on our Grooveology series Okofunk

Okan is of Turkish heritage and grew up in Cologne Germany where he is located to this day. Growing up Okan was exposed to sounds spanning pop, breaks, dance and hip hop music before being introduced to that 90s house sound emanating out of Detroit, Chicago and New York. His career spans back to the late 90s where he and his friends threw small parties in Germany. You can hear how growing up through this era influenced his sound as he winds through a set with a mixture of classic sounding 90s house and new productions which have that classic feel!

Okan has been a resident on a number of radio outlets including Ibiza Global Radio & Radiodeep. He currently holds a regular 'weekly roundup' series for the crew at Radio Electronica which is a wonderful ride of deep house selections

His Grooveology set includes deep groovers from the likes of Radic The Myth, Intr0beatz, Carlo, Tour-Mabourg & Tucillo as well as a couple of his own productions on 'My Dreams' & 'Conflict'

Grooveology 022 | MikeandTess

McG @conor-mcginnis started selecting almost a decade ago on university radio at WSUM 91.7 FM Madison, then a few years later for @sutrofm in San Fransisco. The Spinzone became a weekly show dedicated to sharing record shop finds -- its early beginnings were mostly jazz-dominated then eventually took a plunge into the deep house and disco realms.

While residing in Madison, McG joined the JAMS crew to throw parties at Robinia Courtyard, opening for artists like Jkriv, Seb Wildblood, Peter Croce, Jeff Swiff, Christian James... Fast forward to now he's back in the heart of Minneapolis. McG recently formed "The Excavators": a DJ duo with fellow selector @qjmpls. The Excavators now host a newer series called Wax Appeal: a vinyl-focused party in MPLS showcasing the mixing craft and dance records rarely heard in the area.

Grateful for @thecollectivegroove the invitation. This set is a mash of tunes being bumped at the moment. Some older re-rinses, some much newer... all artists that have had consistently epic releases. Hope you enjoy the ride.
