What a night! Our first resident night at the one and only Monarch Berlin Club (24.9.) after the 18 months Corona break was a very special moment for me. This week's special guest is Ben Holtam aka BenG (Benjie). Hailing from Cornwall in the UK, Ben began his DJ career with a pair of belt-driven turntables which he was given for his 14th birthday. At that time, he solely played hip hop music. As soon as he was old enough, BenG took out a loan and bought a set of Technic1200s. From here, he never looked back.

BenG soon began producing mixtapes and playing at house parties, before securing his first guest DJ slot. That quickly turned into a residency at the local hip hop night in Plymouth, known as The Flava. The Flava slot helped BenG build his following as well as his connections. From here came radio show guest appearances, travel around the country and performing to new, bigger crowds.

During the late 90s, BenG started exploring the sampled originals that had contributed to his love for hip hop. Discovering the art of funk, soul, jazz and eventually disco, this journey also led BenG to garage, 80s electronic music and house music. Playing clubs from Cornwall to Manchester, BenG took his music from the dancefloor to the airwaves when he launched ‘DJ BenG Presents’, a radio show and podcast. The two-hour show aired for several years, on multiple stations around the globe. It consistently delivered the freshest house music and featured a guest DJ each week.

Alongside this, BenG later produced a second podcast known as ‘The Rebirth’: an eclectic mix of future beats, hip hop and old funk and soul. The Rebirth was heavily influenced by BenG’s past musical experiences, all dug deep from his extensive record collection and drawing on his wide musical knowledge.

Today BenG enjoys playing a mix of disco and house for music lovers in bars and bistros, but he still loves to take it to the clubs and entertain the dance crowds. Following a break for a couple of years, he is now back to his music and plans for the future

Voici une machine à tubes, Evelyn "Champagne" King est l'une des rares stars du disco à avoir résisté avec succès au déclin du disco pour avoir plus de succès dans les années 1980, non seulement elle a réussi à survivre en tant que star dans les années 1980, mais elle enregistre et tourne encore fréquemment aujourd'hui.

Elle a commencé à travailler avec l'ancien membre de BT Express Kashif, qui avait également un partenaire Paul Laurence alors qu'ils faisaient équipe pour travailler avec elle en 1977 ou elle produit son premier album Smooth Talk. L'album comprenait le hit disco dance "Shame".

Le résultat en 1981 était "I'm in Love", un tube de danse n ° 1. Elle a enchaîné avec l'album Get Loose en 1982 et un autre succès, l'hymne classique "Love Come Down". Kashif a maintenu un style de production ouvert et épuré qui a laissé transparaître la voix forte et riche d'Evelyn.

Evelyn a continué à frapper les charts pendant le reste du début des années 1980. À la fin des années 1980, elle a quitté RCA pour EMI Records. Le résultat a été un autre grand succès avec "Flirt".
A nouveau en 1983 . "Action", "Shake Down" et "Just for the Night" ont tous percé le Top 20 du R&B. "Your Personal Touch"

King a sorti trois albums RCA supplémentaires sur une base annuelle jusqu'en 1985. Face to Face , So Romantic et A Long Time Coming.

Evelyn Champagne King a terminé les années 80 sur EMI avec Flirt , sorti en 1988,The Girl Next Door , publié en 1989.

2020.07.02 Special OPOLOPO

On Monday's Black Light Disco Show we changed the mood lighting in BLD Towers to 'ambient', opened a bottle of our favourite Red and let the smooth grooves wash over us for the whole two hours.

On resident duties was Goz, who took the steering wheel for the first hour and drove us through a laid-back, perfectly pitched set that prepared the ground for our very, very special guest, Touchsoul aka Adrian Dickinson.

Adrian has been responsible for producing some of the most delicious, timeless and distinct reworks over the last few years. He vibe is so unique, his production skills so on point you can't help but fall under his spell. This set for BLD shows what he's all about; distinctively melodic, moving and assured. This, my friends is not to be missed.
