From the beginning of May 2002 until the end of June 2010, I hosted/DJ'd/produced a Goth/Industrial radio show on KALA FM called "Resurrection." Getting hold of a minidisc ostensibly to come up with a "news theme" in early 2004, I burnt myself out on it and took a break, recording an original composition on a Yamaha Clavinova for reasons unknown. I have since lost the minidisc containing the original recording of the radio show theme music (one of my regrets) but I have a sustain pedal now and have attempted a live recreation of at least the part that listeners actually heard using an Akai MPK88 an M-Audio SP-2 and music software on my Macintosh. Pat-a-pan creeps in at one point and while I initially considered omitting it, I'm pretty sure the song is public domain by now and leaving in that bit from the original recording makes this a bit more "authentic" or what-have-you.

Resurrection Theme

A very very very long time ago, when Yahoo was dominant over all but competed with the likes of HotBot and Lycos and Alta Vista etc., long before Google...

I had a website devoted to links. Not just any links though. It was 1999, about a year after Bungie Software released the Mac port of a platform shooter called Abuse. You fight "mutants" who were originally supposed to be aliens but they changed the plot because that would actually make sense and well... nah. They're mutants in a future prison that just seems like an alien base of some sort. Or... something... it's complicated.

The game was epic, and I did a search for it on Yahoo and got... 2 hits. Then I did a search on [engine here] and got... 2 hits. So I spent days combing through Dogpile and every other search engine I could find until I found a third belonging to a guy from either Russia or Romania. I signed his guestbook, added his site to my fledgling links page, and showed him the other 2 hits, one of which was the forum run by the game's developers. Conversation started happening and he told them about my page and suddenly I was getting emails from people saying "Oh add me too!" and it just spiraled.

Anyway that's all gone now, but Abuse was a fun game and I had a great time being it. 

This track is from 2005 or 2006 when I discovered the fledgling SAU Music Lab with a MIDI-controller and Garageband. I had no idea what I was doing so I just played with the software, thought about the game, and eventually ended up with this. I should note that this isn't music from the game; my copy of the game pretty much had no music, so I made this up while thinking about it.

I have since reworked the track and added to it, but this is the original for comparison's sake.

Serpthulhu Battle Suite

Work in progress. So I stumbled across a "Blade Runner" synth patch in Sylenth1, and did some further digging and found a "Vangelis" synth patch. This happened shortly before having a conversation with someone as to whether a Changeling would pass a Voight-Kampff test. (I argue that regardless of whether Changelings are capable of love or empathy on any level, there would still be a lack of Blush Response and the Changeling would be caught.) I'm currently trying to figure out if that three note theme is from something else. I don't think it is but it... feels familiar somehow. So that worries me. And as usual, struggling with the mix.
