Jamuary 2024 (1)

Tried adding the Microfreak as the bass this time, works ok!  Still trying to figure out how to properly bus and route things in Bitwig.

Jamuary 2024 (3) - Unintrusive Calm

Had to work very late and skipped #4 and feelin' kinda not great so this is free jamming over some quick backing track :(

Jamuary 2024 (5) - There is no 4

Getting into the spirit of spontaneous jamming on some basic scales.  

Bitwig, Microfreak (drone sound).  I tried David Hilowitz's new plugin Refractions on the piano to give it a weird shimmer reverb, it's very interesting and I'll keep playing with it.

Jamuary 2024 (6) - Comfy Cm Jam

Wasn't sure where this one was going, but I liked it in the end.  Dunno much about scales, but adding that D# felt very satisfying.

Jamuary 25 25 - Wail

I put a lot of sounds and loops together that I like, but didn't really get the arrangement to a decent spot before I ran out of gas. I still like it a lot!

Jamuary 26 25 - Atomizer

This one starts very quiet but does not stay that way... Did full tracking for the guitars and bass, as looping would have made it hella boring. Getting those performance nuances makes it work.

Jamuary 2025 - Day 26 - Blue Room

Day 26. I was almost finished putting this together and decided to try a spoken word over the track.  The lyrics were a mix of lyrics and notes from a poetry workshop I had attended for several days this month. We had discussed the concept of home, and these lyrics touch upon that, how it changes in our mind as time goes by, what it means to us, even when it may be long gone.

Through ripples in streetlight, reflected,
Run to the sea,
A strange air, condensing,
In these places that we've been,
We know the streets in the moonlight,
Fade away unseen

Somewhere, always somewhere x2
In my heart x2

It's somewhere you've never been,
An identity you chose,
A bond from memory and time,
It doesn't seem real, its form is dripping, crumbling, pulling apart,
An we rise to meet it,
Sounds whirr and we think of inbetween spaces,
And the lack of sleep in silence,
And even in the emptiness,

Jamuary 26th 2025 The Heart Holds, Tightly

I know ppl liked it, and I'm not saying it was a bad track, but for whatever reason, for me, my track a few days ago, "This ol' House" just didn't properly scratch the house itch.

So. When I came across this drum loop, I knew immediately that I was going to do another house track. I had a bit more gas in the tank for this one, so there are a lot more bells and whistles, and I just generally feel more satisfied with it. Enjoy!

Jamuary 27 25 - Lost

Still fiddling with the deluge’s grain effects. I combined them here with some wavetables to get a nice shimmery, glittery sound that I like a lot. Didn’t really have the juice to make even a basic arrangement, so this is a live take off the cuff.

Got pretty caught up in this one. More full take guitars to get more playing nuance.

Jamuary 2025 - Day 28 - Bedside

Day 28. Instruments are made from a microwave humming, the phone that interupted that recording, a plastic bag, a violin recording, my voice, and the construction from next door that's driving me mad! The title comes from the book 'Beautiful Star' by Yukio Mishima.

Jamuary 29 25 - Fire Sale

Studio was occupied most of the night, so I wrote this one in an easy chair. Kept it very simple, but it's missing vocals, which I have a topline in mind that I tossed on a voice memo but not here.
