After Thought

There comes a time when you realise that all around us is what was, now and what is dying…..
Being hunted is a normal activity now, where night is the safest time; an abnormality, long, varying each day. The Sentinels were closer today, -there tracker technology was very advanced but our decoys normally worked but only for a short time. But it was different tonight…
Running through the forest at fast pace the pursued running out of breath; we were the pursued. The pursuer grew ever closer, the moonlight filtering through the tall dark trees that could expose our position at any moment. 
The long black shadows grew covering us like a shroud but a thunderous noise rose high above, skyward. 

A Sentinel Predator Scout ship, Mark 2 Galaxy Class was closing in fast. 

Silently, it drew ever closer; in for the kill. We had been detected. We had nowhere to run. Trapped within this empty shell of fear, I looked around for any possible escape. If we could make it to the dark city we just might endure….they did have orders not to enter the Forbidden City. 

So we moved as quickly as we could laying decoys and false positives as we went. This would be our only chance and our only refuge. …I could then cut back home before I am noticed as Father would expect me for morning devotions. 

How long would it be before dawn breaks? I would stop and move. The tracker was falling for my decoy and it appeared we had eluded them for now but patrols would increase and my luck could run out, sooner or later. It was becoming too dangerous to go to the Forbidden City. 

I would have to think about this in the future but I must find out the truth….I fell asleep exhausted in a dark cavern with a sign hardly readable that said “Underground” in the old language.

I fell further into a deep coma like sleep….
Daylight dawned on my ashen face, revealing the deep scars seared into my tired flesh that I had endured under The Brotherhood. And in days like these I had to be careful. My position can with privileges be safe to a point but also with responsibilities. Father would be angry with me again as usual, especially if I wasn’t on time for morning prayers and perform the pledge of elegance to the Liberator (my father the great one) in the holy place. 
He made me feel guilty constantly. The worst thing was the waiting, the waiting was the worst thing of all……………burning the hopes we had left behind, now and forever.. 
It was this waiting to reveal the truth and the spirit something, I had learned in the secret archive deep underground in the Forbidden City….I hope I wasn’t followed. I didn’t trust Gunther, Fathers aide. He watched me with discerning steely, suspicious eyes….did he know?? Maybe I was getting paranoid.
