I wrote “Heaven” in 1980 but am finally releasing it just now. This is not about procrastination but rather, tenacity. We all have our challenges and face many obstacles to our dreams. That’s life in these days on Earth. But my message to you (and to myself) here is: NEVER GIVE UP. 

Specifically, this song captures a time in my life when I used to travel back and forth between my home in metro Detroit and college in Kalamazoo, Michigan. I found myself on an Amtrak train looking out the window at the world streaming past, when “Heaven” came to me in a daydream, pretty much complete in my mind as you hear it (and see it on video!) today.

There were towns and farms and pastures and rolling hills out the window; and the hum of people talking and moving about inside the train. Everything in those moments in time seemed perfectly in balance, in tune, at peace, and at one with the Universe. I drifted in and out of a light sleep as this vision of heaven became forever imprinted on my soul.

So now, when I need to calm myself, that’s “where I want to be.” I believe heaven is not a place to go to (someday), but rather is all around us in the here and now, waiting to be discovered if we only will.

I quit my job a year ago to pursue the music that's always in my head. Some of my songs go back to college days in the late-1970’s, so it’s an understatement to say it’s been a really long journey. Truth is, it’s literally been a lifetime of sling-shotting through the many twists and turns and chapters that comprise a lifetime (which in my case has included getting married to my best friend and having children who now pursue music full-time themselves!). 

It's super tough at age 62, but I had to finally take a stand. After all, without my music, who am I?

“I’ve Got Everything” was originally conceived around 2013 in an intense period of personal and professional transition in which I was struggling to find myself and a new way forward. Like most of my songs, I filed it away for another day. In May of this year I finished and released another song (and video), “Heaven,” that had been waiting to be heard since 1980. Progress at least.

And I hope you agree it's better late than never!

My plan is to keep putting music out there. What else can I do? I have a catalog of at least 20 more songs that I think are worth the effort. With any luck, my next song will be released early this Fall. I’m helping my sons run their recording studio and encouraging their musical efforts, as well (and they’re so much better than me, btw, so hope you get to listen to them, too).

Written in 2006 at a crossroads in my career; I’d accepted a job that would take me far from home and family for weeks at a time. Life is often making terrible compromises and then living with the consequences. Music is one of the only ways through it and I wrote this (literally) To Save My Life!

Someday

The Days on Earth is an ongoing project, not a band. Live performances of these songs happen every day, in the creator's mind so that "Music in the soul can be heard by the universe."

Track 1: "To Save My Life" jumps in with both feet. It marks a new chapter by asking a very big question: "Will I?" After all these years, I still don't know the answer to that one.

Track 2: "This Is My Job" is about the American Dream (or nightmare, as too often it turns out to be).

Track 3: "Someday" is a series of stream-of-consciousness word pictures that point to the future with optimism despite it all.

Track 4: "One Day at a Time" is a fitting end to another day (that just blew on by again)...

This EP is highly lyrics‑centered. Notable musical influences include The Beatles (of course), perhaps a little Radiohead, definitely some Motown, with some RHCP's thrown in (with any luck??).. And many others.
