my sound studio final from last semester. i tried to imitate Todd Rundgren's production style since i was super heavy on his 1974 album Todd at the time. can def hear that influence in the first two sections. all drums sampled from breakbeats.

first section is very synth heavy, you'll hear the inspiration for this part if you listen to Rundgren's "The Spark of Life" track. tried to keep it feasible enough for the 70s so no quantizing or clocking-in. effects and mixing toyed with in real-time to sell that analogue feeling even further.

second section uses a lot of reverb channels mixed down to mono to give it that vintage one-mic setup type feel. especially powerful on the keys with some very slight overdrive to give it that rough tone. the bass riff was insanely McCartney inspired which also traces to Rundgren a bit. learned a lot from listening to Sgt. Pepper's tones and tried to make the bass sound a little brass-y which was insanely fun to fuck around with.

third section is me doing my own thing shitting around on bass while playing with a sampler (which i fed me playing bass note to give it that plucky sound). i was watching a nature documentary where this gator was desperately trying to eat a bird who was constantly just flying far enough away to not be eaten and tried to imagine that interaction in music form. the bass is the gator and the plucky sampler is the bird in this scenario.

when i presented this track i got the most positive feedback on the first section but personally the second section is what i'm most proud of. felt nice to give an homage to the beatles/rundgren in that way. mix is generally clean with some noticeable clipping occasionally but meh
