My HUGE 2 hour look at the happy hardcore played at Helter Skelter in 1995! I honestly didn't think I'd enjoy mixing this as 95 was not my favourite year at all but when I went through my tracklists and then my records I realised I'd subconsciously bought pretty much everything played in 95 at Skelter!

I had so much fun mixing this, what a special time where the breakbeats faded away and the kickdrum became stronger and more prominent and the basslines became stabs and claps with huge influences from European music. You'll either love or hate this style but I'd like to think I chose the right tunes, all tracks played at Skelter! I hope you enjoy listening...

Back in 2000 I spent a lot of time on the Drum & Bass Arena website chatroom (LOL) and met a few people online that would end up inviting me down to Kent to go to Atomics with them, my mates back home loved raving but wouldn't travel that far down south so I used to get the train down to Rainham in Kent and go to the weekly Atomics night in Maidstone. This was my first taste of D&B raves south of Birmingham and I got to see a lot of DJs and MCs that rarely came up my way. It was only on 9pm - 2am but was every Saturday, I went to a handful o events in 2000 and also went NYE 2000/2001, very messy nights!

In full drum & bass mode this week so decided to mix the final chapter of my Helter Skelter D&B timeline! This time its a very special year for me, 1999. I went to Lost In Music and Decadance as a 17 year old kid and had amazing nights at both! In 99 I was a full on D&B raver and bought every record I could, I've had these records for 20 years and they still sound fresh!

In 1999 the dark, techy sound was dominating D&B with the Molten Beats album on Ram, Bad Company's 'The Nine' and 'Pulse' were released and pretty much every DJ was playing this unsettling, aggressive sound. Huge shout to Randall, Brockie, Swanee, Kenny Ken, Hype, Grooverider and more for helping shape my musical tastes...hope you enjoy the set!

Over lockdown I must have listened to every Helter Skelter set ever recorded! I did a series of mixes celebrating 1996 to 1999 but then I went back and listened to the 17th Sep 93 tapes and realised I had so many tunes from these sets. 

I decided to put a set together of JUST tunes from the tapes, there's so much variety whether it was the pianos from the Slipmatt set, the darkness from the Randall set or the weirdness from The Music Maker set...93 was such an exciting year. I hope you enjoy my tribute to this crazy year where the light and the dark clashed and hardcore jungle techno reigned supreme...
