Resurfacing via Portsmouth drum and bass label Murky Digital for the second time this year following his spring debut Dark Sets In, Ipswich beatmaker Conrad Subs is back with the colossal new EP For So Long.

Having earned praise from drum and bass royalty including Mollie Collins, Low Down Deep boss Logan D and Kings of the Rollers’ Bladerunner for his last contributions to the label, the Suffolk-based producer is a bona fide star in the making. Known among followers for his unrivalled musical output – in both volume and quality – he dropped his latest project mere weeks ago, guesting on Nuusic with the well-received High Frequency team-up Ignite.

Taking things in a more jagged, abrasive direction, For So Long comes as a timely reminder of this seasoned talent’s indisputable range. Doubling up as the project’s introductory track, titular offering “For So Long” is rebellious by nature, its plinking melodies and luscious lyrics soon succumbing to a potent combination of screeching formant synths and crunchy basslines. “Swish” opens in a similarly spirited fashion, with throbbing, delay-soaked leads and a timeless topline segueing into a rugged, rave-ready arrangement of barbed low-end and rattling percussion.

The second half of the project finds a number of different styles on display, with gifted mic man Fraser laying down a plethora of self-assured halftime raps on “Movement” atop a bed of jump-up-esque oscillations and pattering, mechanical whirs. “Cluster”, the ensuing cut, is built around a bulldozing bassline and violent snares, while “In Your Arms” – the EP’s parting gift – is equally boisterous, punctuated by searing synths and tight 808s.

The For So Long EP hits Juno Download and Spotify on 3 September, reaching a full range of digital service providers the following week on 10 September 2021.

Summer Mix Series Reloaded: CRUELT

With a wealth of high-profile outings to his name including multiple appearances on Logan D’s authoritative jump-up label Low Down Deep, Japanese drum and bass specialist Tomoyoshi now takes to Portsmouth label Murky Digital for the first time with his new EP Dark World, a timely release on Halloween week.

Hailing from Segata but steeped in junglist culture thanks to his time spent living in London and Germany, the seasoned DJ/producer has racked up a significant back catalogue following the release of his 2019 debut album Black Smoke on Original Key. He’s since enjoyed a breakthrough year, with endorsements from the likes of Mixmag and Guestlist and a pair of releases on Low Down Deep – 2020’s “Be Water”/“Kung Fu Master” single and this year’s Evolution EP – contributing towards his status as one of today’s most sought-after signings.

Over the course of five tracks, Dark World burrows down to new depths, plunging into subterranean frequencies and hauntingly hollow atmospherics to leave a lasting impression. The project’s titular opener sees resonant synth stabs slicing through the mix, beset by oscillating low-end and flitting cymbals, while follow-up “Raw-Fi” finds clinking found sounds, pensive keys and snarling basslines coming together to form a slinking stepper. “Voodoo” is every bit as spooky as its name suggests, with clanging, discordant percussion and reversed cymbals leading effortlessly into passages of wavering bass and sampled breakbeats. Continuing in the same vein, “Cattle Mutilation” pairs voweled basslines reminiscent of alien communications with pared-back drums, while “Waves” takes things up a notch once more. Centred around a haunting drone and richocheting vocal samples, it’s nothing short of a grand finale.

The Dark World EP hits Juno Download and Spotify on 27 October and will be available from other streaming services and digital vendors a fortnight later on 3 November 2021.

A year on from the release of his bestselling EP Revenge, Suffolk drum and bass DJ/producer Damageman returns to south coast label Murky Digital with a raucous five-track follow-up entitled Revenge Part Two.

Racking up a significant output since his last outing on Murky Digital including releases on Twisted Individual’s renowned Grid Recordings, Canada’s Dutty Bass Audio and his very own label, Sub Heavy Audio, the East Anglian artist has been on top form, exploring all things dark and bassy while deploying cutting-edge sound design skills. Much in the same vein, Revenge Part Two features some of his boldest offerings yet.

Pulling no punches from the outset, the new project introduces itself with a dangerously dark VIP mix of its namesake, breaking down its signature quivering, elongated basslines into sharp, staccato arrangements to give the track a newfound ferocity. “Dark Matter”, which follows, is a certified heads-down stepper. Utilising a fusion of ambient atmospherics and nostalgic jungle FX, it promptly pivots into chugging drops anchored on relentless hi-hats and rumbling low-end.

Colchester MC and frequent Damageman collaborator J.O.K takes the reins on the vocal treat “Cattle Prod”, a cantankerous cut underscored by worming sub-bass and rattling percussion which builds on the momentum of past link-ups like last year’s Street Fighter-inspired “Zangief” and the Zombie Recordings belter “The Switch”. Meanwhile, “Dirt Nap” returns to all things instrumental, its unassumingly minimal opening notes suddenly giving way to gritty passages of surefire dancefloor destruction, and “Mellow Fellow”, the EP’s sublime closer, takes things in a different direction. Bringing tender keys, unintelligible vocal cuts and noodling guitar licks to the fore, Damageman adds a sprinkling of iconic breakbeats into play and lets it rip, spotlighting another of the many strings to his bow.

Revenge Part Two hits Juno Download and Spotify on Thursday 25 November, arriving via a full range of digital service providers the following week on 2 December 2021.
