Proton Radio: Amplified Guest Mix

I was stoked to return to Northern Nights Music Festival for my second year playing – I threw down a Friday night set at the Submerged Sessions stage for an hour of trippy vocals, rolling baselines, house, minimal, techno n' breaks. This was quite fun to hear these tracks blasting out on a proper Danley soundsystem (thanks, Jobi!!) – it's one of my fav sets I've played in awhile. Thanks to everyone who joined 💜

Torie - Live at Northern Nights: Submerged Sessions

Finally got my recording back from LIB and I'm immediately transported back to the rollercoaster of emotions I experienced that weekend. 

Between the heat, dust and being around tens of thousands of people after going through a pandemic, it's safe to say I was a little rusty at festivaling. On top of it, my legs felt like floppy noodles from how anxious I was to play the prime set time Friday night at the Junkyard. This is something I experience often before gigs, the sweats, self deprecating internal thoughts, imposter syndrome. I questioned if I belonged here or if I earned it. Then I mixed in and immediately felt at home. I thought to myself "Bitch you know what you're doing" and went on to play one of those "highlights of my career" sets for me personally. 

The rest of the night and weekend was a breeze, and the magic of LIB was amplified. I was able to see the thousands of smiling faces in front of me, the above and beyond details The Do Lab had added and updated, and realized this was so many people's first festival back and they could not be happier about it. I could not be happier about it. 

I hope that you enjoy it and that you're happy too.

A fresh face in NYC this past year, 2022 was quite a debut year for the west-coast transplant. Building on over a decade of left coast residencies [The Endup, Nocturnal Code, The Regency Ballroom, Strategik] Cavalier honed and communicated his signature funky/techy house sound to happy crowds in London, San Francisco, New York City, Los Angeles and Miami. No stranger to adventure, 2022 saw Cavalier play new venues and festivals like The Knockdown Center, House of Yes, Love Burn as well as more intimate venues like TBA Brooklyn, Eris, beyond. The peak moment (of self-actualization) was a soul-quenching resident DJ set for Bubbles & Bass at Burning Man on Friday morning just before N2N and David Hohme. The San Francisco native is onto something special, and is here to stay in NYC. Catch him in bloom, dreaming with an open heart, an applied mind, and a desire to keep the floor moving to the celebratory sounds of life. Having played clubs, festivals and undergrounds from coast-to-coast, CAVALIER consistently presents audiences a selection of compelling tracks guided by intelligent design.

The hypnotic momentum of the night passes to the hands of DJ Three as light begins to fill sky and the new day creeps ever closer.  For forty breathless minutes we wait… until at last the sun breaks over the horizon, and a collage of verbal musings, psychedelia and ornate music fills the air.  Toying with echoes and teasing with nuance, shutters fluttering to capture the fleeting moment…a moment not soon forgotten for those who were lucky enough to be there, at sunrise on Sunday, Black Rock City, Burning Man, 2014.   And then, just as easily as we are led into that place, a whole movement of sound and energy returns the dance floor.

From late night sets in Miami to blowing our minds at Burning Man, it became pretty apparent to us early on that Öona Dahl is a trippy chick.  Her music, her style, and everything about Öona is fascinating and it's been an absolute pleasure getting to know her over the years. We knew we had to bring her into the Desert Hearts Family after an extended time hanging with her at Pile Palace in 2016. We wanted to give her a time slot that allowed her to flex her musical versatility and we knew there's no better time to spread those wings than Sunday sunrise.
