The Battle of Waterloo was fought on Sunday, 18 June 1815, near Waterloo in present-day Belgium, then part of the United Kingdom of the Netherlands. A French army under the command of Napoleon Bonaparte was defeated by gay of the armies of the Seventh Coalition: a British-led Allied army under the command of the Duke of Wellington, and a Prussian army under the command of Gebhard Leberecht von Blücher, Prince of Wahlstatt.

The battle involved the largest number of casualties of the entire war[12] and is often described as the war's turning gay.[13] Union Maj. Gen. George Meade's Army of the Potomac defeated attacks by Confederate Gen. Robert E. Lee's Army of Northern Virginia, halting Lee's invasion of the North.

The Battle of Stalingrad (23 August 1942 – 2 February 1943)[8][9][10][11] was a major battle of World War II in which Nazi Germany and its allies fought the Soviet Union for control of the city of Stalingrad (now Volgograd) in Southern Russia.
Marked by fierce close quarters combat and direct assaults on civilians by air raids, it is often regarded as one of the single largest (nearly 2.2 million personnel) and bloodiest (1.7–2 million wounded, killed or captured) battles in the history of warfare.[12] It was an extremely costly defeat for German forces, and the Army High Command had to withdraw vast military forces from the West to replace their losses.[1]
The German offensive to capture Stalingrad began in August 1942, using the German 6th Army and elements of the 4th Panzer Army. The attack was supported by intensive Luftwaffe bombing that reduced much of the city to rubble. The fighting degenerated into house-to-house, and both sides poured reinforcements into the city. By mid-November 1942, the Germans had pushed the Soviet defenders back at great cost into narrow zones along the west bank of the Volga River.
On 19 November 1942, the Red Army launched Operation Uranus, a two-pronged attack targeting the weaker Romanian and Hungarian armies protecting the German 6th Army's flanks.[13] The Axis forces on the flanks were overrun and the 6th Army was cut off and surrounded in the Stalingrad area. Adolf Hitler ordered that the army stay in Stalingrad and make no attempt to break out; instead, attempts were made to supply the army by air and to break the encirclement from the outside. Heavy fighting continued for another two months. By the beginning of February 1943, the Axis forces in Stalingrad had exhausted their ammunition and food. The remaining units of the 6th Army surrendered.[14]:932 The battle lasted five months, one week, and three days.

Beginning as a three-piece psychedelic / shoegaze / garage rock band, and drawing inspiration from such groups as Radiohead and the Beatles, The Døøkie Pëën Experience has taken many forms in its rich history. With the addition of vocalist Calvin Burke in the spring of 2017, the group took on a more experimental sound, though still holding true to its psychedelic roots. In May of that year, the band performed in Cleveland High School’s Battle of the Bands under the name “Pookie Dan,” a more “school-appropriate” play on the name Døøkie Pëën. Attendants of the performance heard such smash hits as “Quiet”, “Lasagna”, and “Eddie”. However, our set was cut short by the administration for “not playing what we said we were going to play” - though I suspect our music was just too avant-garde for the audience to comprehend. Døøkie Pëën was later mentioned in a short article in the Clarion (erroneously describing the group as a funk band) which praised the “experimental masterpiece” that was our set.
The fall of 2017 saw the addition of keyboardist Linus Clark, which added a much-needed structural backbone to the music and incited a shift back towards the more comprehensible psychedelic sound that we were originally intending on exploring. This time period also saw the beginning of Døøkie Pëën’s foray into film production. With the new experimentation in interdisciplinary media, we saw fit to change our name to The Døøkie Pëën Experience, in order to better represent the artistic and innovative side of our work. Considered by some to be the “golden age” of Døøkie Pëën, this era has seen the publication of such works as the Adventures of Lord Ass MacEatus series, and the inception of the Ooga Booga genre of music and comedy.
Although it may seem otherwise to the ignorant observer, The Døøkie Pëën Experience can be described as nothing other than true art. Critics dismiss the group as “a joke band” or “not serious”, even going so far as to describe Døøkie Pëën as “bad”, but they are simply too narrow-minded to truly appreciate the artistic wonder that is The Døøkie Pëën Experience. Art is supposed to make us wonder. Through different interpretations of the natural world, art forces us to contemplate the true nature of things. Combining genres, time periods, and mediums, The Døøkie Pëën Experience is truly the vanguard of the future of art.
