We all have our secrets, things that we never say, and I'm beginning to think it's better that way, when I've laid it out on the table, and the truth is setting in, and I realize I've wasted love again,

Losing A Friend

Sitting in my truck, and I'm staring at the pine tree, hanging from my mirror, it's all torn up to pieces, parts laying on the floor, surrounded by an avalanche, from the week before, and I think it's time to clean it up, 

It has been a while now, since we parted ways, and I guess that I'm not used to driving, with someone anymore, we used to take a lot trips, and see a lot of places, and I'd always make sure, that my car was ready to leave, 

You're here, you're going, you're gone, and I know, I've got a stake in the blame, we never talked it out we just walked away, 

Now I'm looking through receipts, and reading scraps of paper, that I saw under my seat, like all the other garbage, and I found a little note, that you wrote me last summer, and I wrinkle it right up, and throw into the recycling,

I'm moving out of Kent, and driving north to Bothell, most nights I sleep alone, outside of a Walmart, and I'm thinking of you now, and how I'd like to feel, and how time will separate, and I will fall right out of love with you,

Hospital break up

I was running back and forth, swinging on a pendulum, you were never true north of where we started, and in a stumbling haze, after all the spinning ended, I could barely make out your silhouette in the distance,

I was in a prepping room, waiting on a surgery, you were far away sitting next to me, wishing you could get away from me and all my bullshit, but how can you walk away from someone on deaths doorstep, 

I won't be under very long, just hold on, just hold on, I keep thinking I'll wake up, and you'll be gone, you'll be gone, 

Maybe I'm delirious, or its the medication, but you aren't making sense, can't we solve this later, and as I'm sinking under, you are sobbing quietly, slipping off your ring, and laying it on the gurney,

The son of evangelical missionaries, Luke Abbott was born a drifter moving around the world, from California to Japan,  finally settling in western Washington. His life was the Baptist church; following in the footsteps of other Christian singer-songwriters like David Bazan, Abbott attended Northwest University, a Christian liberal arts college in Seattle where he studied music.
 
It was in college that his religious commitment started to waver, following a series of faith-shattering events like the divorce of his parents and witnessing religious hypocrisy up close as he rose through the ranks as a music pastor.
 
Abbott eventually traded his faith community and all his possessions for a fishing boat in Alaska after the loss of his mother. It was here The Drifter Luke truly stepped into his songwriting, in the solitude of the Chatham Strait.
