ELECTRO U.N.I.T.Y is a solidarity project orchestrated by Vema-Diodes in
art-technick.
All profits will go to the group “Nonamekitchen" (@NoNameKitchenBelgrade) an independent charity that works together with refugees and migrants on the Balkan Route and in Ceuta.
Our intention is to be able to donate as much money as possible to this charity so that we can provide these people, who are far from their homes and far from fundamental rights; with shelter, blankets, and food during this winter.

35 artists from around the world have joined this special and supportive initiative to create one of the best V.A’s of the year. We have pampered the selection of tracks and sound as much as possible.

Rise of the Machines is the debut collaboration between two exciting new players in the electro scene - Erik Griffoen & Ben Evans aka The Droid, who have been forging new sounds across a multitude of heavy tracks over the past two years that have picked up strong radio support from Dave Clarke on White Noise, Ralph Lawson on Exit Planet Earth and Qamar Sol on Space is the Place, alongside plays from by ADT, Paul Hierophant, Damo B and Dexorcist.

ROTM features four tracks of cutting edge electro that transition from peak time in the club to moments of pure tripped out musical bliss, all delivered with expert production and sound design.

Kicking off the release comes the title track ‘Rise Of The Machines’, this quirky yet nuanced excursion sets the pace, allowing it’s nifty ricocheting sequences, slick 808s, and tripped out ear candy to hit the clubs. ‘Prisoners features a wiggly bass led jam, plastered with synths and finished with a dash of vocoded vocals.

Onto the flip side - ‘Room And Pillar’ grabs the bull by the horns with a tough and aggressive bass line driven banger. Shrieking, twisted synth lines and FX are shattered across the track, keeping tension levels peaking, while TR808 rhythms cut through with military precision. Contrasting ‘The Neutral Zone’ sucks us into a deep atmospheric orbit of blissful yet inquisitive FM synthesis, distant emotive pads, fortified by warm stately bass tones.

For this 34th Premiere of 2022, we have a track by the Electro DJ/Producer originating from North Wales, Based in Leeds "The Droid" titled ‘Merge’ from the forthcoming Charity Compilation "End Broken Windows Vol​.​1" on the New York based label founded by Haldan Blecher in 2004 : Palms Out Sounds.

On February 25th, Palms Out will release the first in a series of compilations on cassette and digital. Titled plainly: "End Broken Windows", 100% of the proceeds of the series will go to charity in an effort to raise awareness about broken windows policing methods. Specifically, I hope this project contributes in some small way to spreading the word about the ways in which policing and prosecuting low-level offenses serves only as a way of terrorizing and traumatizing vulnerable populations, without achieving the intended goal of preventing violent crime. The theoretical premise of broken windows policing is fundamentally flawed, and woefully misguided -- there is no evidence that focusing police power on low level violations like sex work, loitering, minor vandalism, petit theft, minor drug offenses, etc. leads to any reduction in violent crime. The practice must end.

Each volume of the series will benefit a different charity doing work to counteract the effects of broken windows policing; all it really does is criminalize being black, trans, queer, young, unhoused, etc. The first volume will benefit the SBB National Sex Worker Bail Fund (swopbehindbars.org/donate). Sex workers are often intersectionally and inordinately affected by broken windows policing, and should never be forced to spend a single night in jail merely for exercising agency over their own bodies.

Musically and conceptually, this record is inspired by a place where broken windows policing is disproportionately felt: the subway/metro. I gave all of the artists the vague prompt to write music inspired by the NYC subway system -- and the results were expectedly varying. For this volume, I pursued artists who have been generally exploring midtempo dance music without focus on 4 to the floor drum patterns. The result was a collection of largely breakbeat-oriented songs, some with direct classic NYC & Detroit electro references, others with more melodic and euphoric UK hardcore inspiration, and others still that kind of split the difference between modern bass and Baltimore club (for lack of better descriptors).
