Claudio Coccoluto - Everybody Boogie

The Dub label is back with a fine two tracker from acclaimed Italian DJ, record collector,
producer and composer Claudio Coccoluto.
Coccoluto is boss of The Dub, a label that likes to champion “fine and real house music
with soul” and has been doing so since 1996 to great acclaim. He is also someone who
boasts a collection of more than 70,000 records, is a widely published music writer,
skilled DJ who plays all over the world and has created soundtracks for some of the
world’s biggest brands. He recently hooked up for a split release with Apparel Music
owner Kisk and here goes solo with two more impressive cuts.
This new EP adds to a small but well formed discography for label boss Claudio
Coccoluto and is yet another on point outing for his label.
Up first, the excellent ‘Tribe Call Sun,’ a full and effervescing track with low slung guitar
riffs, tin pot percussion and blasts of frazzled bass all driven by mid tempo kicks. It’s a
freeform cut stuffed with sunshine, soul and seductive vocal ad libs that really makes you
want to get loose.
Then it’s to ‘Discoflavour,’ which is a more fiery and floor focussed disco track with
authentic soul vocals, trilling keys and lush chords all loosely bobbling about next to
soaring strings. Again filled with feeling and sounding wholly aged yet crisp and shiny, it
is a modern classic in the making.
Claudio Coccoluto is a veteran of the scene but puts all that musical know how to great
use in everything he does, and these al fresco bombs are the latest in a long line of
success for the Italian.

Tastemaking modern labels Apparel Music and The Dub have hooked up to put out one release on two labels on the same day, with both having different covers but featuring the same two hot tracks.

Apparel Music owner Kisk is behind one cut here and is an accomplished Italian who has multi-cultural roots that really show in his music. He has DJed everywhere from fabric to Tresor and has collaborated with a wide range of artists on his label. His ‘Blissanova’ track* is as the name suggests - perfectly summery and breezy with rich melodies, tooting instruments and loose, louche drums. Full of top trumpet vibes, flowery motifs and humid chords, it’s a perfect outdoors house track to get people moving. 
Then comes fellow Italian Claudio Coccoluto who boasts a collection of more than 70,000 records, is a widely published music writer, skilled DJ who plays all over the world and has created soundtracks for some of the world’s biggest brands. His contribution here is the delightful ‘Unbelievable.’ It’s a real jumble of percussive sounds, vocal ad libs and piano keys all driven by a house kick and noodly saxophone patterns. As lush as you like and stuffed with effusive musical vibes and emotions, it’s a sure fire winner. 
The cover image for this great release is by Massimo Mariotti, and the EP has been mastered by Stefan Eichinger aka LOPAZZ, and the music is beautifully original.

This is a super tidy two track package that is perfectly mastered and offers some truly standout music from two modern Italian greats.

Starting with a half bar bass hook that sounds a little like Solomun's 'Country Song', 'Blissanova' is a funk laden groove, even moreso when an off kilter sax comes into the picture. The track then takes an unexpected turn as a unrelenting synthwall that reminds us of a Los Hermanos UR track hits us for a full four minutes. The bassline drops back in and before you know it you've gone from lighthearted disco to techno in the space of five minutes. 9/10

[When We Dip] Premiere: Kisk - Blissanova [Apparel Music + The Dub]

October 1996. In a decadent corner of Rome, behind the old market, a new nightclub was born from the ashes of an old motorbike repair shop, thanks to the determination and vision of four friends and business partners. The shop had already been transformed into a nightclub in the past, but the venture had proven to be unsuccessful. They decided to call the ambitious project “Goa”, a nod to the full moon parties on Indian shores, and they decided to decorate the nightclub in the style of an English lord’s Indian mansion. Precious and elaborate furniture was installed in the space thanks to a collaboration with a famous Rome-based gallery, as well as candles and Indian-themed décor that distinguished Goa from other nightclubs in the city at the time.
Up to this day, those who come here feel like they are entering into another world, one with ivory-coloured walls, exotic and mysterious Indian objects and sofas adorned with precious fabrics. Goa club was different right from the start. The four founders were adamant about playing avant-garde and innovative music that had little to do with what was being played in other Roman nightclubs, and over the years their musical tastes evolved and blossomed further. A wide variety of music has been played there since it opened, from Acid Jazz to Trip Hop and all the way to contemporary Minimal Tech, by some of the biggest and best representatives of the various branches of electronic music – world famous artists and djs. Today Goa is recognised around the world as a real institution for electronic music thanks to its seventeen years of experience in the field and its dedication to the music it plays. It is currently equipped with an Audio Factory soundsystem that makes the sound  perfect and clear.

Started by House aficionado Claudio Coccoluto, The Dub has remained a staple of Italian dance music sporting an indubitably consistent catalogue that reaches right back to 1997. Now - in the follow up to a slew of 12”s from the owner himself - The Dub present their 37th record, the first addition from Claudio’s son and current label manager Gianmaria Coccoluto working alongside fellow Italian Luca Vera.

At just 22 years old, Gianmaria Coccoluto is an auspicious talent already with records on Wound Music and his own label TÊTE under his belt. When paired up with veteran producer and DJ Luca Vera, we see an enlivening musical meld resulting in 3 lively cuts primed for brimful dancefloors.

‘Gjørme’ kicks things off with a sharp kick and tumbling bongos that gather momentum towards abrupt shifts in intensity that are certain to send the floor into rapture. 

‘Jorden’ then drives a full-bodied kick drum through more busy bongos and a persistent, circling bass pattern that keeps tension bubbling throughout.

‘Sand’ then finishes up with frazzled feedback signals and a loose-limbed groove. Off-kilter organ stabs and rich atmospherics generate a brooding mood that caps off another fine addition to a label with 20 years experience in the game.

Headed up by stalwart House producer Claudio Coccoluto, The Dub has remained a consistent and reliable outlet of Italian dance music since their first release back in 1997. Now - 20 years on the label is still going strong, now capably managed by Claudio’s son Gianmaria Coccoluto. 
 
Having released material from a range of respected artists including The Heartists, The World Famous Martinez Orchestra and Easydelics - they now ready a fresh collaborative, 3-track 12” courtesy of Claudio and Gianmaria. 
 
‘Dance On Merengue’ kicks things off with rattling bongos and organic drum samples that are matched with sharp 909 hats. Moving through different percussive chapters and with the addition of driving vocals, tension builds throughout before Claudio and Gianmaria’s ‘Me Gusta Asi’ follows up with a slick, low-slung groove. Bubbling sax and rhodes lines sit behind a squelching synth while a solid kick drum keeps things pinned to the floor. 
 
‘Dance on Salsa’ then layers Salsa rhythms with punchy electronic drums in the creation of a fervid, dancefloor track that’s guaranteed to satisfy the needs of the dance floor bring another solid addition to the Dub catalogue to a close.

Born in Belgium in Liège and in love with music since always, it is around the age of 15 years old that ANouch discovered the techno music of Jeff Mills, Sven Väth or DJ Rush among others…
A lot of others musical styles arrived soon and influenced her tastes (with Daft Punk, Miss Kittin, The Hacker, Vitalic, Birdy Nam Nam…).
But it is only years after, end of 2015 that she decided to start deejaying.Things fell into place on the dancefloor of the clubs in Basel in Switzerland. In love with vinyls, it is naturally this support that she choosed first to play. Her musical style is a mix of Deep House, Tech House, Deep Techno and Minimal Techno.
Since beginning of 2017 she starts to play first in clubs in Basel then in Ticino, Germany, France and Belgium.

The New Jersey based producer, DJ and Strength label boss was referred to as "the dancer's DJ" in Resident Advisor's 2009 feature on the US east coast house renaissance, a title honestly earned given his background as a world traveling house dancer and resident at New York's esteemed HouseDanceConference. He's been steadily reinforcing that description ever since, with a well-received run of rhythmic, dark, stripped-down productions for his Strength Music imprint.
