The Dukes was founded in 1971 and is the only professional producing theatre within a 50 mile radius. 
It has three performance spaces – The Rake (traditional ‘end on’ stage); The Round (in the round); and DT3, a beautiful converted church, also in Moor Lane, which is home to the Creative Learning Department which works with many thousands of young and disabled people each year, encouraging them to develop their skills and creativity.  
The Dukes also has a gallery used for exhibitions by local artists and a popular café-bar open for morning coffee, light lunches, tea-time treats and evening snacks.
The Dukes is recognised as one of England’s outstanding small city theatres and cultural centres with home-grown productions which regularly reach national standards of excellence.
