I imagine Winston walking down the long corridor in the Ministry of Truth, laughing like a hyena, with Julia and O'Brien at his side.  He's walking to the Golden Country, happy at last, waiting for the longed-for bullet to enter his brain...

I imagine I-330 cackling in her 'indecent' yellow cocktail dress, X-eyebrows arched, as she lights another fag and helps herself to another glass of absinthe whilst practising her Scriabin...

This is a diptych thing.  I decided to call Part One 'The Necker Cube' because when the beat finally appears it seems to change the orientation of the bassline.  Rosa (dreamdemolitionfactory) did the voice.

Part Two is an industrial drone based on field recordings taken from the basement floor of Huddersfield Royal Infirmary (near Obstetrics, no less!).  Savour that vibe of grim, late-night institutional emptiness!  Linoleum floors, air conditioning, squeaky trolleys, flickering striplights, couples waiting anxiously for news, empty lifts behaving autonomously as they transport nothing to nowhere...

Alas, I'm quite familiar with institutions now...


The Necker Cube/Inside The Institution

This is an experiment to see if I can fuse the exciting dubstep bass and drum sounds with the flanger-heavy guitars of goth.  And there's a bit of chiptune in there too.

Séance is a 'drawn sound' synthesizer I developed in Max 5 whilst studying with Monty Adkins at CeReNeM, Huddersfield.  It is inspired by Daphne Oram's 'Oramics' machine, the Soviet ANS synth developed by Murzin in the 1950s and Xenakis's UPIC. 
Users draw sound shapes in a jit.lcd object.  The visual image is then manipulated by filtering it through Kurt Ralske's AUVI plug-ins for Jitter.  Changes to the visual information result in real-time changes in sonorities.  The audio stream is then fed into further DSP, including grainstretching algorithms, ring modulation and delay.  

The synth can create a wide range of timbres, from scintillating pointillist flickers to dreamy swelling pads.

Track inspired by a visit to Wayland's Smithy - a Neolithic long barrow and chamber tomb site located near the Uffington White Horse and Uffington Castle, at Ashbury in the English county of Oxfordshire. Legend has it that if you leave your horse there overnight, it will be reshod by unseen forces by morning time...
