Everybody else was doing it.
Why not you?
And so for a while,
Life was easy.
Life was simple.
Life was, comfortable.
But then you start to wonder what you’re living for.
What do you stand for? What’s your cause?
And then you remember that life begins where your comfort zone ends.
And you start to wonder about the seed that society planted in your head,
And you start to wonder about the set of traits God gave you when He built you,
And you start debating which one you let grow.
Do you become the “you” that everybody else wants you to be,
Or do you become the “you” that you were always destined to be?
As much as we want to go out and make our dreams come true,
As much as we want go out and do something to leave our mark on this world,
It’s still so much easier to live comfortably.
When we live comfortably, we know what to expect,
 We don’t need to fear the rejection,
We don’t get picked on for being different,
For being an individual.
And that’s okay, if we’re too scared to push ourselves.
As we get older, we all swear we’re gonna be somebody someday.
And anybody who doubts us is  wrong,
But the time passes and we’re still not at the point we want to be at,
And there’s nobody to blame but ourselves.
The clock doesn’t wait for anybody.
The clock doesn’t care if we’re sick, or if we wanna get drunk instead.
But for some of us,
We see our potential,
 and we step out of that comfort zone.
And it’s scary at first.
It’s the scariest thing on this planet.
But when we push ourselves,
And we know no ceilings,
We achieve dreams bigger than we ever believed were possible.
Your potential is only limited if you think it is.
If you see no limits,
They don’t exist.
No ceilings, no fences.
Just a whole world for you to take.

A lot of the songs that I write are just letters to myself. This one is a reminder to myself that I don't have to be stuck, alone in my brain, wrestling with my thoughts. In those moments where I feel like I can't escape that negativity, I'll remind myself to look up and remember that life is perspective and relative. Things are only as good as you choose to see them, and "Down" is a declaration that I will always choose to find the positives, and through that mindset, will set myself free.

The Northern Lights dancing in the night's sky, Eagles soaring over snow-capped mountain tops. It sounded like Heaven. When my brother returned home from the army,  he brought a thousand pictures and a thousand more stories. He fell in love with that place. He always said he wanted to be buried there. Not long after he got back, we lost him in a car accident. 15 years later, I got to thinking. And I think it's time we took him and set him free where he belongs. Alaska is a story that hasn't happened, yet --  of my mother and I flying to Alaska to spread David's ashes.
