We are the princes and princesses of urban solitude, hanging on the edge of the city, on the fifth floor with a small window to the end. We sense the end. The calm white edge, in the sky above the railtracks. We feel the end. We lean on the end and fall asleep. We adorn the end with flowers and dreams and photographs. We are the curators of small dreams spilled in the grass on traffic islands. We are the consolers of earthworms making their way across the rush hour. Our blood veins are streets and we stagger at night, swooning at the streetlight. Geeks disguised as bohêmes. Bohêmes disguised as punks. Punks disguised as common people. Common people disguised as geeks. We are the warmth when you zip up your thin jacket in the suburban autumn sunset, on your drowsy way to the supermarket for cheap coffee. We are the strange glance in the sleepy cashier's face. We are the buzzing of the neon signs reflected in the lake. We are The End. Heartland explorers pretending to be pretending, bathed in the irony of irony, keeping time to time.
