ASPHERIC - Animalia 27.03.21

Redfreya is an emerging artist in the London-based deep house/tech scene, with a monthly residency on Bloop London Radio - Urban Soundscapes. 

A few words from Redfreya: 

"I've been DJing for a few years now, and listening to house and techno for almost a decade, but I find that my taste is continually evolving still, especially as I grow as an artist and consider sounds and emotions to weave into my sets. This is a deep house mix, but I tried to keep it very grounded and down to earth, with a lot of simmering, minimal grooves and a slow build up of contained energy. I hope I've struck the right balance between emotional and also uplifting (without being too 'happy' which always makes me cringe in house music - sorry not sorry). I love the Fan Club atmosphere and was really happy to curate a set for you guys - I only wish I lived a bit closer to Australia so we could meet on a dancefloor. OLIIV - Animalia 27.03.21

A few words from Luca:

"I've always been fascinated by rhythm and how it can create connections .
As a family we were encouraged to delve deeply into music so as a kid, I started experimenting with my dad’s blues, jazz & funk albums which then led to rock and heavy metal as a teen. It was just natural to then take up the drums when my older brother formed a band, playing lead guitar,  and we started rehearsing out of the garage. Growing up in Milan, the club scene exposed me to big name techno & house and inevitably, this merged with the varied music genres I was exposed to from an early age and my passion grew. I continued my musical journey inspired by deep electronic beats, strong disco feels  and the sounds of the world.

Moving to Australia,is when I really found my creative focus in music and bought my first set of decks in 2013. With the support of some very talented DJ's in Perth, I was encouraged to experiment with blending live instrumental music and ethnic electronic rhythms to create a deeply organic and global sound that I am still discovering today.

After being welcomed to Sydney,  and playing a few events over the last year, I’m very fortunate to have my friends at The Fan Club ask me to contribute this mix. I hope that it tells you a story and is as much fun to listen to as it was to make!

The Design Director at Australia’s famous denim label ONETEASPOON, resident artist and general EP / Album / Vinyl cover artist for Moblack Records and Inward Records, and a DJ, her passion for music reverberates in everything she does. Today is no exception with a 90 minute mix that is sure to get you moving. 

A few words from Rachael:

"Afro house will always be the root core of what I play,  its unique deep-rooted sound moves me in ways nothing else can. Artistically also, being the resident artist for MoBlack Records and Inward Records I create EP and Vinyl covers for some of best Afro House producers there are. Listening to their tracks and drawing to the music I hear. 
With any mix I do, I start with recording my own vocals that relate to how the music feels to me but also with what’s going on in my life or where I’m at mentally. They are always provocative and playful, just as per the music I play. 
And so with this mix, as usual, it is full of the best carefully selected new Afro House tracks with a sprinkle of Indie Dance, Electronica and some Melodic Techno."

Fan Club Friends Episode 17 - Innermansions "MADRUGADA"

Versatile & elusive, not restricting himself to one musical universe or feeling is Pish, and since childhood was filled with way too much soul, rnb & hip hop - far from a typical electronic music backdrop, the young’n grew up on a steady encyclopaedic diet of sounds. What’s played a profound effect on him are the tones that attract positive emotions without words, notes that are percussive, meditative, hypnotic and danceable.

Heading south to Brisbane with an unfamiliar path ahead proved invaluable, as it was where he embarked on many late nights, events, learnings & met friends that are family paving a way for his most ambitious project to date, enter HUMP, a place that shares the same language with everyone in the neighbourhood. As he continues to churn out the tapes, tunes & push emerging new artists on his label he is completely music happy and celebrates this more than one knows, he has created a home for others with a refreshing approach to an ever healthy & supportive scene.

Samantha Loveridge - DJ, producer and label manager at "Inward Records". A woman of many talents with a deep passion for all things music. Today Samantha gives us a taste of what to expect from her as she joins us on Easter Sunday for a Fan Club + Blueprint + WeLove take-over of the Marlborough Hotel. 

A few words from Samantha: 

"If I were to label the music I produce and play, it would be Afro-House - but with a hint of organic and melodic. I’m a sucker for a track that stands out because of a unique sounding synth or catchy vocal. 

Artists I'm inspired by, and always check up on to see where and what they’re playing, are the Keinemusik gang (Adam Port, Rampa, &ME) Dixon, Eagles & Butterflies, Tale Of Us and Solomun.

I try to structure my mixes and take the listener on a journey. Not everyone is into Afro-House as much as other genres, so I like to include tracks with emotion and a rework of something they might know to engage them, which you will hear in this mix. Despite everyone's genre taste, music is something everyone connects with in their own way. Regardless of peoples race, religion, gender or sexuality, music connects people from all over the world and watching everyone come together and connect on the dance floor is magical to me.

Let us ease your post long weekend blues as we welcome Emily Harkness for episode 21 of Fan Club Friends. 

Emily has always felt music is at the heart of her soul and life. A vocalist in the drum and bass scene with a solid catalogue of releases, Emily turned to house music as a DJ-Vocalist last year, and was quickly picked up as a resident for influential Sydney fixture, Blueprint. Emily’s dynamic sets reflect her effervescent personality and feature uplifting melodies, a strong bass line and the occasional breakbeat track as a nod to her origins. Emily’s selections often weave in ethereal sounds and vocals to reflect her Celtic roots. 

Her live sets incorporate a love of vocal anthems, bringing you on a sonic journey through the mix itself and accompanied by her soulful voice; with new takes on classic tracks.

Fan Club Friends Episode 21 - Emily Harkness

It was an infatuation with electronic music from a young age that sparked the beginning of Nick Berry’s DJ career in the Sydney scene back in 2014. Since then, Berry has made a name for himself through his acute deviation from what is popular, playing uniquely melodic music punctuated by an eclectic mix of deep house and techno - influenced by the 90’s rave era. Fast forward to present day and Berry has shared lineups with DJ Koze, Jimi Jules, Trikk, The Drifter, Oliver Koletzki, Andhim and Gerd Janson to name a few. During the stagnant year of 2020, he maintained his divergence from the conventional when he founded The Anomaly Radio Show alongside Harry Hooper and Milly Lees. The brand is a cultivation of deep electronic music paired with finely curated graphic design to help listeners navigate through the beautiful obscurities of electronic melodies. Anomaly has released 18 radio shows from 18 fiercely talented international artists; Budakid, Invōker, David Mayer, Armonica, Murat Uncuoglu, Phunkadelica, Kris Davis, Aaaron, Stereo MC's, Super Flu and others. The mixes showcase the respective style of each DJ, while contributing to the surreality that is Anomaly. The music is complemented by the dynamic visuals of Leipzig talent - Panthera Krause. Since her 2021 debut, Mexico-born, Melbourne-based DULCE has spent her time crafting her sound within some of Melbournes most well-known entertainment venues. Her sound encompasses deep and soulful melodies whilst always maintaining a perpetual, sensual groove. Mystical, shamanic rhythms form her core collection, with a mix of deep, afro, tribal house and indie dance. Dulce always maintains her Latino culture as a base, with influences of her second home’s (Australia) vibrant electronic music scene. Dulce describes her musical performance as a bridge to connect and express her soul spirit.

Fan Club Friends Episode 25 - DULCE

One-half of the duo Vagabonds, who our Sydney dancers may have spotted playing for S.A.S.H, Return To Rio, T1000, Blueprint and WeLove in recent times, Pace started spinning and collecting vinyl aged 13 and has since travelled the world with his music.

While consistently deep and vocal infused, his versatile style blends across a range of genres. He’s no stranger to the booth at Soda Club and Scalaria in Salzburg, and has played at some of Guatemala’s and Ibiza’s nightspots on his travels.

In 2018 he combined forces with Eddy Wells to form Vagabonds where their diverse love of house music has enabled them to truly explore its possibilities and create a unique soundscape that aims to bring people together.

With plans to relocate to Europe next month, this is the last mix Pace is putting together down under after a decade on Australian shores, making it extra special.

Alice is incredibly versatile when it comes to music - enjoying mixing through a wide range of genres.  She isn’t afraid to push boundaries, combining underground classics and hidden gems with new and exciting sounds. Alice is also fond of a great remix which is demonstrated by her opening and closing tracks. She has  incorporated a mixture of energetic and deep, Indie Dance, Melodic and tech tunes to keep our feet moving, featuring a few of her current favourite producers such as Adam Ten, The Organism and Big Bunny.

Fan Club Friends Episode 28 - Alice Hardwick

Oliver Henry is a classically trained producer, multi-instrumentalist & DJ from Sydney. His productions initially caught the attention of Alan Fitzpatrick, who supported and released his debut EP in February 2022 featuring the hit ‘Closer’. This tune put Oliver on the map as one to watch, nearing two million streams across Spotify + Apple Music so far in addition to receiving support from &Me (Keinemusik), Hudson Mohawke & Dixon. 

The success of Closer built a sizable curiosity for the young producer, and Oliver followed up with ‘You Forget’ - a luscious collaboration with longtime friend Keepa on Solomun’s own label 2Diy4. The track received immediate support from Pete Tong in his ‘Month in Dance’ show on BBC’s Radio 1.

A year after the release of his debut EP, Alan Fitzpatrick’s imprint Apex Faction welcomes Oliver back for his highly anticipated new ‘From The Ashes EP’, which transcends genres of breakbeat, house & brooding electronica.

Fan Club Friends Episode 29 - Oliver Henry

The People’s Dance Collective is a producer/DJ that calls St Kilda, Australia home. 

After a history of organising renegade parties, like the illegal festival "Beach Weekender" and vinyl only nights, The PDC spent the summer of 2022/2023 DJing at Melbourne's floating oasis nightclub, ATET, brainchild of Jake Hughes. It was the perfect opportunity to road test his growing repertoire of PDC productions. Over the summer he supported some pretty big names including DJ Tennis, John Course, Donald's House and Boogs. 

The PDC also runs the mix series Deep House Melbourne, and has recently released an italo number on The Journey's label "Ugenius". 

The PDC is inspired by the euphoria of trance, the rugged nature of electro, and the deep emotional vibes of house. His sets are energetic journeys into forgotten gems and future classics. He inhabits a space where throwback deep house bombs sit comfortably with melodic, organic and afro house.
