Peter Blackwell is the Chief Executive at ReachOut, a charity providing one-to-one academic and character mentoring for 800 disadvantaged young people in London, Manchester, Oldham and Liverpool. 

He started at ReachOut in 2004 as the sole member of staff in London, working in frontline youth services in Hackney. He progressed to leading the London office, and took on responsibility for ReachOut’s fundraising work, whilst growing the charity in London to cover Hackney, Tower Hamlets, Camden, Islington, Haringey and Lambeth. He was appointed Chief Executive in 2015, and has overseen growth of the organisation from 39 projects to 65, expansion into Oldham and Liverpool, and an increase in turnover from £540k to £1m+ in 2018/19.

Peter also runs his own sports leagues business, and serves as a school governor at The Petchey Academy. He has previously been a governor at two other schools, a trustee of the Hackney Winter Night Shelter, and volunteered as a South East Committee Member for BBC Children in Need for four years.

In this episode, we discuss the power of mentorship, education, values and building great character in young people. Peter Blackwell of ReachOut - Helping today's youth build character and make better decisions.

Ricky Weaver is host of the Connections Untold podcast, where he speaks with incredible people in each episode to share their life stories and lessons. Starting the podcast back in September 2019, Ricky opened up about his prior child abuse and difficult upbringing, and since then has led a life of curiosity, interviewing dozens of people. Through his podcast, Ricky advocates the power of connection and vulnerability and is a firm believer that our stories have the power to inspire and move others in to making positive steps in their own lives.

In this episode, we discuss the power of shifting perspective. Ricky had some challenges in his childhood but was able to transmute them in his adult life to channel his energy to strengths and opportunities, resulting in his podcast. We also talk about the benefits and detractors to podcasting, the value of accountability partnership and the courage of being vulnerable.
