This recording was made beginning of April 2012 in the Central Cardamom Mountains in Cambodia. Material was set up at 4:30AM and recording started shortly after 5:00AM.

At the beginning of the record just some crickets and a single bird are to be heard, but progressively the whole mountain begins to wake with many different kinds of animals celebrating the new day.

I am happy to share this record, as it catches a moment very meaningful to me. Standing still and listening to the mountain with the sun slowly rising was truly a unique experience.



Waking Mountain

Gentle Water Stream on Tompor Mountain in the Central Cardamom Mountains/Cambodia. This mountain is considered holy and there is a hermitage with a friendly monk. The stream is located one kilometer further.

The stream is backed by birds singing their relaxed songs.


Forest Stream

This is one is really impressive. It was taken on a 5-day expedition into the Veun Say-Siem Pang Conservation Area with the Wildlife Conservation NGO "Poh Kao", based in Banlung, Cambodia.

The site is a sacred place for Indigenous people and is called "Trolob Niu". It is a kind of grassland/ swamp area surrounded by huge trees, so that it sounds like a natural arena.

Soon after the recording starts one can clearly hear the flapping of wings of one or two Great Hornbills. Then two Hornbills land just in the axis of my microphone and display an incredible call-and-answer game.

Everything is backed by a concerto of Cicadas and Frogs...
