I wanted to start this year off by covering one of my favorite songs by Elton John. After listening to the Disney+ stream of his Farewell concert, and checking out plenty of early performances on YouTube, I wanted to cover this song.

The drums were played on the keyboard using Sonar’s Steven Slate Black Bird library. The piano was performed on Nord’s White Grand sample (which is still my personal favorite). I played my five string bass with my bass pod, the MarbleHead guitar mixed with the Vox amp, and a little shaker here and there.

Then with my Victor Reader Stream and mixer, I recreated the crowd using plenty of samples Brian sent me a while ago.

This was a lot of fun for me, and I hope you all enjoy it too!!! (Smile)

Benny And The Jets - Elton John Cover

Continuing my Elton John repertoire, I decided to cover “Madman Across The Water.” I was inspired by not only the album version, but also the piano demos, the live Australia performance with the orchestra, and Bruce Hornsby’s jazzy version. I ended up with kind of a quartet version with a guitar part during the chorus, but for most of the song, I chose to have only piano, bass and drums. For the piano, I used Nord’s “extra large” version of their Grand Imperial, than turned the bright filter on my Nord Grand to get more of that Elton-type sound. I played my five string bass, and keyboard drums using one of Sonar’s non-accessible libraries. This ended up being a lot of fun to cover!!! Hope you enjoy it! (Smile)

2016 - More Corn Dogs V1

I was noodling around with Preset A49 on the DeepMind 12 and my son happened to notice that it sounded like the Minecraft Music (when you set the tempo to 80bpm). I think he's right.

2017 - DM12 Minecraft

Was trying to work on some parts/sounds for a new band but kept meandering off and created an imaginary sequence from an early 80s cop show. Think Los Angeles... 2:30am... Criminals down in the warehouse district... a monkey... Alan Thicke pulling an ice cream cart... You know, all the typical 80s cop show things.

2017 - The Equalizer Sequence 1

Luciano Berio's VISAGE and Lewis Carroll's JABBERWOCKY are the inspiration for SIGNALS FROM A SMALL PLANET. The accompanist interacts with the soprano in real time 'playing' the laptop,
triggering musical clips stored in Laptop memory.

Signals From a Small Planet: Lily Taylor and Gil

This track was done in 7/8 based on a pattern I came up with a couple of months back. The piano sound is a factory Ensoniq Mirage sound loaded with 8 bit grit and aliasing. All other sounds are from the Hydrasynth. Drum sounds were created on the Hydrasynth and then sampled into the MPC for sequencing.

Who Knows Anymore

This is what happens when Robert tries to sound like Peter Gabriel, back in 2006. Seriously, I was trying hard to emulate "The Last Temptation" soundtrack, but on a Mac Mini with limited tools, haha.

I forget what all the elements are, except I do recall the vocal samples are from Native Instruments' Kompakt, the "lite" precursor to Kontakt; vowel changing depending on the mod wheel position.

The drums were most likely from Spectrasonics' Stylus RMX.
I didn't have many other VSTs, so the synths must have been either stock GarageBand synths, or more likely something called up from Spectrasonics Atmosphere, if you remember that precursor to Omnisphere. (I still have the install CDRoms somewhere!).

You Got It Made

The Filter Saturation is the perpetual one man band project of me, Brian Anderson. It encompasses all of the music that I've either written totally for myself or as a demo for other acts. I play drums, percussion, keyboards, guitar, bass (kinda), sing, and various other instruments.

Genres tend to be all over the place. Whatever I'm in the mood for at that particular time. I tried to date the titles of the pieces to show when they were actually written. A lot of this stuff is pretty rough.
