New Grounds

The new album Segments (released on June 6, 2025) marks the next step in the evolution of Formula X. With an even stronger focus on drum and bass, the album also explores dance, breaks, and touches of dubstep – offering a dynamic listening experience that moves across electronic genres. As always, the sound is defined by creative sound design, a blend between organic samples and synth sounds, energetic beats and a certain amount of dirt in the tracks while preserving a clean and transparent production.
Following in the footsteps of the debut album Nemesis and 2022's The World Inside, the new record features returning collaborator Beate Baumgartner as well as newcomer Julia Ivanova (known from the band Kontrust), both bringing emotional depth and vocal energy to the tracks. Created over the span of several years, Segments showcases a matured, adventurous sound with catchy hooks, detailed arrangements, and expressive melodies.
The previously released singles “Rain”, a high-energy future rave track featuring Julia Ivanova, and “Pico”, a nostalgic synthwave journey through retro-futuristic soundscapes, already gave a taste of the album’s wide sonic range.
The man behind the music is Austrian producer and keyboardist Ulrich Schwab, who draws inspiration from a wide range of influences – from Pendulum to Massive Attack, from jungle to dubstep. His goal: to create genre-bending, emotional electronic music that stands out in a landscape often dominated by uniformity.
